Vaccination （接种疫苗） is among the most effective ways to help us prevent diseases. For viruses that don't change too much — the measles virus （麻疹病毒）, for example — getting vaccinated is a once-and-for-all method to prevent you from becoming infected with the virus. If you had two measles vaccines when you were a child, you would be protected for life.

However, it's a different story when it comes to influenza （流行性感冒）, commonly known as "the flu", which generally peaks between December and February. Flu vaccines cannot protect us in the long term. 

There is no long-term immunity （免疫）, according to Theodore Strange, associate medical director at Staten Island University Hospital in New York. "The virus essentially'changes its coat' — H1N1, H2N3, and so on," he told the website Healthline.

Apart from a person's immune protection from flu vaccination declining over time, flu viruses are also constantly changing. So the vaccines are likely to be updated from one season to the next to protect against the viruses that research suggests may be the most common during the upcoming flu season.

Thus, to develop effective flu vaccines, over 100 national influenza centers around the world conduct year-round surveillance （监测） for influenza. Researchers will test thousands of influenza virus samples from patients, according to the official website of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CD). The World Health Organization also suggests there are three or four influenza viruses that are most likely to spread among people during the upcoming flu season.

But even when a vaccine is developed, getting it can prove to be difficult, as it is in high demand and short supply. The timing of influenza vaccine production and distribution is unpredictable, thus the availability of the flu vaccine supply does not always meet peak demand.

So scientists prioritize access to the vaccination. The CDC recommends key populations, such as medical staff, teachers, students, children and those aged 60 and above, receive flu vaccines.

This year the situation seems more complicated, as the upcoming flu season coincideswith the COVID-19 pandemic. This could overwhelm hospitals, straining （过度使用） esources and healthcare workers, time.

Recent videos claiming that a school in Ganzhou, Jiangxi, serves pre-made meals to its students have sparked heated discussions across the country. People doubt if pre-made meals, despite being convenient, are healthy and nutritious enough for growing teenagers.

Pre-made meals refer to half-finished or finished dishes that are already cooked or prepared, according to the China Cuisine Association. There are several types of pre-made foods, including ready-to-eat food, such as canned （罐装的） food or cooked food in packages, and ready-to-heat or ready-to-cook food, which requires heating or cooking before being served.

Many people tend to think that ready-to-heat and ready-to-cook foods are less nutritious because they usually need to be kept in freezers or refrigerators.

"Actually freezing does not cause a loss of nutrients," Liu Junya, a 33-year-olddietitian in Beijing, told Teens. "Nutrient loss typically occurs during the heating or frying process."

Vitamins from the B group and vitamin C found in meat and vegetables are heat-sensitive and can be lost during the process. By being heated or cooked twice or more, "pre-made foods can be less nutritious than freshly prepared and cooked foods," Liu said.

Meanwhile, "many pre-made food companies prioritize taste over nutrition," said Liu. This leads to higher levels of salt and sugar in the food, which may lead to health problems, such as high blood pressure or diabetes （糖尿病） in the long term.

Additives （添加剂） are also a major concern related to pre-made food. In China, there are strict standards for food additives. Currently, China's food industry has well-developed techniques to preserve pre-made food without the excessive use of additives. Some food can be sterilized （消毒） and then sealed （密封） after cooking, followed by low-temperature storage, allowing for a longer shelf life. However, it's essential that customers buy pre-made meals from qualified food companies or supermarkets.

It is hoped that regulations on pre-made meals can be strengthened to better ensure nutrition and hygiene（卫生）. This way, "pre-made meals will be more accepted by the public," Liu said.

For the first time, scientists have grown plants in the moon soil collected by NASA's Apollo astronauts. The scientists had no idea if anything would grow in the moon dirt. They wanted to see if it could be used to grow food by the next generation of moon explorers. The results surprised them. Plants actually can grow in lunar （月球的） soil.

The researchers planted thale cress （芥蓝）, a small flowering plant, in moon soil returned from the Apollo missions. The good news was that all of the seeds grew. The bad news was that after the first week the lunar soil stressed the plants so much that they grew slowly. Most of the moon plants ended up stunted — meaning small or not fully developed.

The longer the soil was exposed to radiation and solar wind on the moon, the worse the plants seemed to do. The soil collected by the Apollo 11 mission was the least helpful for growth. It was exposed a couple billion years longer to the elements.

Scientists said, "This is a big step forward to know that we can grow plants. The real next step is to go and do it on the surface of the moon."

Moon dirt is full of glass particles from micrometeorite （微小陨石） impacts. One solution might be to use younger geologic spots on the moon, like lava flows, for digging up soil. The environment also could be changed by adding special nutrient （营养物） mixtures or artificial lighting.

Only 382 kilograms of moon rocks and soil were brought back by the six Apollo crews that landed on the moon. Most of them are still locked away, forcing researchers to experiment with soil made of volcanic ash on Earth.

Early last year NASA finally gave out 12 grams of soil to the University of Florida researchers for the planting experiment. NASA said the timing for such an experiment was finally right with the space agency looking to put astronauts back on the moon in a few years.

Remove social media apps from your phone If you find yourself picking up your phone and going on the Unteinet every time you get a notification （通知）, delete the social media apps on your phone. Make it a rule that you can only check these apps on your computer. 

Look at one website at a time instead of having multiple websites open.  This can help you to avoid going back and forth between multiple sites and wasting time.

Dear students;

It was a Saturday afternoon. I was having lunch when Dad told me to get ready. I became unhappy. I don't like Saturdays! Even though it's a holiday. for most children, it is not for me because I need to go to football club. 

Many kids love sports, but I am not one of them. I prefer to stay at home and read. I don't like running. so in a team I am a bad player. The coach is tired of me and my teammates sometimes think I'm useless.

I have no idea how to play football. Usually, after practice my teammates would ask me to stay out of the game and I would just nod.

Last Thursday, the coach told us that we would be competing with another team in a month and many people would come to see the game. Our opponents （对手） were the winner last year and I froze and thought how awkward it would be if the team lost because of me.

So I decided to practice hard for the match and I went to practice every single day.

After one month, when the game day came, my teammates were unwilling to take me in the team, and I also wished to stay away from the ground as well. But they happened to be short of one player and had no choice but to take me in the team.

Our team was the Big Blues. There was a great cheer on our arrival in the field. I got very nervous. The game started and within two minutes, I got a blue card. By the time I was allowed back, the score was two goals for each team and the next goal would decide the winning team.
