Once upon a time, there was a poor man and a rich man. The poor man's son was named Ham, and the rich man's son was named Jim. They had been in the same school together since childhood and became good friends.

One day, the two youths began a discussion as to whether wealth or effort was more powerful. Jim said that wealth was most important, while Ham declared for effort. At last, Ham declared, "Let us put it to the test: Let us both go to some far country and try whether wealth or effort is more successful." Jim agreed to this plan and they fixed a day for starting.

Then they both went home and collected some money and started off early one morning. After a time, they came to a certain country where Ham suggested that they should look for employment. But Jim did not like the notion of becoming a servant and he said that he would live on the money which he had brought with him, which would last for a year or two. "You may do as you like," answered Ham, "but for my part, I must look for work." So he went to a village and found employment as a teacher in a school while his friend rented a house and started making various friends, eating and having fun all day.

One year later, Ham earned enough money, built a beautiful house and also got married. However, Jim had already spent all his money, and his friends who indulged in wine and meat also left him. Hungry and sorrowful, he went to Ham and said, "My dear friend, regarding the question of ‘wealth or effort is more important', I think I've already had the answer."

Children seem to care so much about their names. A study shows that most of young people wish their parents had given them a different name.

Some people choose to change their names when they grow up. Many people in show business don't use the names their parents gave them. Have you ever listened to Joanne? No? The answer could be "yes" if we call her stage name instead! You may never heard of Margaret. But if we tell you her stage name, you might know her as a famous dancer.

In many cultures, there are special ideas about how to choose a name. For example, many people choose a name that has been in their family for many years. It tells the child where he or she comes from.

Choosing a good name isn't easy. Many parents search books that tell them the meanings of names. They could choose a name that carries a message. For example, Edith means "valuable gift". Amanda means "love". And Fara means "joy".

Names like these tell family and friends how happy they are with their new baby. Other names can say something about the events during the birth of the child. In Africa, a first born son may have the name Mosi and the name Ama means "born on Saturday".

Is every boy called Curitis polite? And is every girl called Mahira quick and full of energy? No parents can tell what kind of person their child will grow up to be. Just because parents name a boy Fahim, it doesn't mean he will be clever. All they can do is hope.

Many Silicon Valley parents are becoming more concerned about preventing their children from using screens. Some parents think that even a little screen time can be extremely addictive, so it is better if their children avoid using or seeing these devices completely. However, it is difficult for working adults in the 21st century to give up using a phone at home. So, it's simpler to employ someone to do this.

"Silicon Valley nanny (保姆)", who takes children back to a time without screens every day is widely needed. From Cupertino to San Francisco, it's widely agreed that screen time is harmful to youngsters. Therefore, parents are requesting nannies to keep phones, tablets and computers in a hidden place. Others even offer no-phone agreements.

Research shows that spending too much time on technology can harm young minds. For example, teenagers who use social media frequently are more likely to feel depressed and anxious. Insomnia (失眠) rates have also increased amongst this age group, and an increasing number of children display the signs that they can't focus attention. These seemingly minor (轻微的) problems could become significant challenges for future generations.

"Many parents come back home and focus on their smartphones, ignoring whatever their children are trying to say," said Shannon Zimmerman, who works as a nanny in San Jose for families that forbid screen time. "As a nanny, I also call on more parents to spend more time with their kids."

High school years are a great time to start saving money. Teens have their pocket money and almost all their large expenses are covered by their parents.  Some goals high schoolers might want to save for are a spring break trip, a smartphone and a computer. Here are some tips to bring these goals closer to fruition and to become wiser with money.

Create a budget (预算).  Use a budget to calculate school expenses, bills, costs for fun activities and savings contributions. Try to check in with the budget regularly each month, and consider using a budgeting app to help you get started.

 Setting goals is an important part of a savings strategy, so you can plan ahead for what you're saving for. These goals might be saving for buying a computer, going on a trip or paying for college. Determine how much you need to save for each goal, and adjust your budget to account for it.

Avoid impulse (冲动) buying. Impulse buying is a bad habit and it can lead to regret. Try to control your impulse to buy something that's unnecessary by writing it down and seeing if you still want it after a week or two. 

Set aside an emergency fund. Having an emergency savings fund is necessary for preparing for unexpected events.  Aim to have at least 500 to 1,000 yuan set aside for an emergency fund while in high school, and continue to build this fund up as you take on more day-to-day living expenses over time.

Art is my favorite subject because I enjoy drawing. In school, there are only four1 classes per week, which I find not enough. During an art lesson, I notice that time2 to fly by. When I'm drawing3 , eighty minutes feels like eight minutes. One moment I am taking out my art materials, the next the teacher is4 us to hand in our work.

Protect traditional Chinese culture

Tom Hankins, 88, stood by the living room window, looking out of the window. It was a beautiful and sunny day in Florida. Tom stopped socializing altogether six years ago after his wife. Meredith, died of cancer. He had all of his time to himself, reading books, watching TV and occasionally experimenting with new cooking recipes on social media platform.

With time. Tom realized he didn't particularly like being alone. His only son, Aiden, was a successful analyst (分析师) in a big IT firm in New York City, and Tom wanted Aiden to visit him, but the young man kept putting it off.

Suddenly, Tom noticed that the rubbish bags were left outside instead of inside the bin (垃圾桶). Thinking it would relieve his boredom, Tom went to the bin and began clearing the rubbish, putting the bags inside the bin. When he was done, he noticed that nearly every family in the area had left their rubbish bags outside the bins.

Tom knew it would be difficult to clean up the rubbish in front of all the houses in the hot weather, but he couldn't just see the rubbish bags left like that. He took a big rubbish bag from his backyard and decided to move from one house to the next, clearing up the litter.

Tom stopped right in front of the bin and began clearing the rubbish, putting the bags inside the bin. But he hadn't even left when a man came with a rubbish bag and simply dropped it on the road. To make matters worse, he didn't even secure the bag properly, so the wind blew part of the rubbish onto the street.
