Welcome to the State Park, where fun, fitness, and education come together!

Don't miss our new summer classes, which are available during May 23—Aug 5!

● Swimming lessons: Age 4 - adult. Cost: $5 per class or $15 for one month.

● Hiking: Have a park keeper hike with you through our paths and teach you about the park's wildlife and plants. The park is a perfect spot for hiking.

● Soccer: Our youth soccer program is unusual and non-competitive. Different teams are formed every day. The focus is on each player learning to work as a team, not on one team winning it at all.

● Boating: These classes are only for 20-year-olds and above. Fishing is only allowed with a permit.

● Bicycling: We have special paths built for bicyclists. Signs are posted for self-guided tours of our park.

Group cycling is also available with a park guide. Paths range from easy to challenging.

A message from the director:

Hiking paths! Sports fields! Playgrounds! Campgrounds! Fun activities! The State Park offers something for everyone. We have a number of plants and animals, which are in danger of dying out, being protected in our park. Sign up for one of our new summer community classes, or take a camping trip with your friends or family. All the facilities here are set up with modern systems, so you don't have to suffer while enjoying yourself—unless you want to!

Glen Harwood, Park Director

Experience being a park keeper:

Are you 13-17 years old? Ever wonder what it would be like to be a park keeper? It's a competitive field, but you can get ahead by volunteering with our Teen Keeper Program. Depending on your age and responsibilities, you can even earn college credits for certain universities!

It is not unusual at all for teens to answer their parents with one-word answers. "Where are you going?" "Places. " "When will you be back?" "Sometime. " "Who will you be with?" "People. "

That means that the days of your children bounding in the front door with the details of their day are over. They are breaking away from you so that they'll be able to stand on their own as a young adult.

Some parents feel sad about this loss of their children's closeness. Of course you miss those conversations and friendly talks. Once your children move out after high school and establish themselves confidently as a young adult, they'll come back for easy conversations and even ask for advice. But in order to determine who they are right now they need to separate from you.

Your job, however, is to keep them safe and that requires knowing where they are and who they are with. Let them know clearly that it's not because you want to dominate their life and control them; it's because it's a safety issue for family members to keep track of one another.

When they're home and sit down to eat a meal, sit down with them. You need to open up to them about your life. Tell them of an interesting incident at the office, let them in on a bit of family gossip (闲谈), discuss a piece of news with them. They are glad that you see them as old enough to be in on a few experiences of your life. By letting a teen in on your life, they just may let you in of theirs.

Asking for help is a sign of strength rather than weakness. In American culture, the independent individual is seen as perfect. As the University of Missouri at St. Louis states on its website under the heading Key American Values, "Americans have been trained since very early in their lives to consider themselves as separate individuals who are responsible for their own situations in life and their own destinies(命运). " The value also makes them think they can do everything themselves, and makes them feel badly about asking for help when they need it.

And when it comes to work situations, when they think about asking for help there, sometimes they fear that a request for help would make them look incompetent(无能的). While this has always been true for men, many women in the workplace have felt the need to try twice as hard as their male colleagues and do twice as much to get just as far and to prove their worth. Sometimes when we think about asking for help, our inner voices tell us, "See, if you admit you can't do this on your own, they'll see you for the imposter (骗子) you really are. "

But the fact is, even though individualism is on the rise, we can't do everything by ourselves and we shouldn't try.

Apple founder Steve Jobs once told the Santa Clara Valley Historical Association about the power of asking for help, and how he "never found anybody who didn't want to help me when I asked them for help". He said, at the age of 12, he called Bill Hewlett, co-founder of Hewlett-Packard, on the phone after getting his number from the phone book and asking him for spare parts so he could build a frequency counter (计频器). And Hewlett agreed and offered young Jobs a summer job assembling frequency counters.

"If you're afraid of failing, you won't get very far," Jobs said.

Dogs feel their way through the world with their noses. Researchers have started imitating(模仿) this super skill with an artificial-intelligence-based detective tool. In a study published in February in PLOS ONE,a multinational team reported an AI-powered system that is as accurate as trained dogs in correctly recognizing cases of prostate (前列腺) cancer from urine (尿) samples. Andreas Mershin,a research scientist from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, wants to finally integrate the technology into smartphones:There would be a small sensor in the phone with AI software running in the cloud.

Prostate cancer,the second most deadly cancer in men worldwide,is difficult to detect. The most widely used test can miss 15 percent of cancers. Trained dogs, on the other hand, were able to recognize patients with prostate cancer from urine samples more than 96 percent of the time. Yet dogs can get bored and tired, so researchers want to develop an AI system that works more consistently.

Living cells produce chemicals that come out from the skin, blood, urine and breath. Artificial noses, including the "Nano Nose" that Mershin and one of his colleagues developed, can already detect those chemicals at the same parts-per-billion concentration as dogs. The team added the chemical sensing to an artificial neural (神经的) network—a type of AI algorithm that can learn from looking at examples how to recognize faces, for instance.

As the 2015 Journal of Urology study showed, dogs can be trained to reach more than 96 percent accuracy, and the AI can be trained to reach that same rate. Mershin plans to train the AI algorithm using data from the "Nano Nose",which is now one third the size of an iPhone 10 and could be further shrunk to be integrated into smartphones.

With the weather warming up, the desire to kick-start a new fitness(健身)routine is very real. But after being locked indoors for months, you may feel as though you lack(缺乏) exercise. So how do you get motivated to get active once more?Exercising with your partner can be a great way to strengthen inspiration. Here are our top tips for an exercise routine that's built to last.

Pick something you both love.

If you love Pilates but your partner is all about lifting heavy weights, working out together might seem like an impossible task. While you can both stick to the activities you love,. Pick an activity you both love, or work towards a fitness goal together, like completing a fun run or half marathon(马拉松).

Getting sweaty doesn't sound like the most comfortable when you're doing activities, but there are things you can do to make it as happy as possible. Buy active wear that not only feels good but looks good, too. Dressing in sports wear that you're excited about can make a difference on days when the motivation might be lacking.

Sunscreen,too, is a must-have when you choose to exercise together on the beach. It is good for wearing during sport or heavy-duty outdoor activities. It's sweat-resistant, with a dry-touch formula, while still offering UVA and UVB coverage.

Be supportive and have fun.

Trying a new outdoor fitness route, or running in front of strangers along the sand, can be a little uncomfortable, even if you're doing it with the one you love,. Motivate each other to get out of bed on days and remind each other that you're not working out just for looks. Getting your body moving has long-term benefits that far outweigh what can be seen from the outside.

And remember to have fun: trying something new is difficult but finding something you both love and enjoy means you'll have a healthy habit for life.

A. Feel good with fitness preparation

B. Dress comfortably and properly to feel good

C. choose some exercises that require very little equipment

D. so remind your partner that you're in it together and stay supportive

E. make time to start something new together or work towards a common goal
