Do you know that the "Happy Birthday to You" song is the first song sung in outer space? Apollo IX1 sang it on March 8, 1969. It is one of the most popular English songs of all time. Here's the story behind it.

The song was written by two sisters from Kentucky, Mildred and Patty Smith Hill. It was first published under the2 of "Good Morning to All" in 1893. It was used as a classroom greeting. Teachers sang it each day to3 their students to the classroom.

The composer, Mildred Hill, was a concert pianist. Her sister Patty Smith Hill wrote the original(最初的)lyrics(歌词)for the song4 she was a teacher in a kindergarten in Louisville, Kentucky, where Mildred also taught.

The Hill sisters copyrighted(取得版权) their song on October 16, 1893. However, it appeared without their5 in Robert H. Coleman's songbook on March 4, 1924. Coleman changed part of the lyrics to say, "Happy Birthday to You",6 the song still had its original title. The song was then published several times over the next ten years, often7 small changes in the lyrics. In 1934, when the song was sung every night in a Broadway Musical,8 Hill sister, Jessica, went to court (法院) over the copyright problem of the song. She was angry about the theft of the song and the failure to pay to her sisters. She9 her case. The Hill family owned the rights to the melody and had to be10 every time the song was part of a commercial(商业的)production.

The Hill sisters, who devoted their lives to educating children, could never imagine that the simple little song would continue to earn about $2 million every year.

Ever feel like no one really understands you well? "Pepper" could be about to change all that. Pepper is the first robot to read human feelings. Using its emotion recognition functions(情 感识别功能), Pepper can react to people when they are near them--making jokes, dancing and even singing in Japanese.

The man-like robot looks like a small girl. It is four-feet tall with a tablet computer(平板电脑)set to its chest. It has human-like hands, a girl-like body and baby-like voice. It was shown to curious people in Tokyo stores on Friday by Softbank, a Japanese robotics company.

Pepper can examine facial expressions(面部表情), human voice and signs, then make an answer. Pepper is able to communicate about everything from the weather to more serious topics like the latest information in the stock(股票) markets. Yet the great difference is that Pepper can make eye contact when meeting people.

The creators believe that robots like Pepper will make a great difference to our daily lives as the PC, Internet and mobile phones did. Pepper is designed to be a family robot, but it isn't like Rosie who can do housework on the cartoon. Pepper gets power from love inside a family. It can not only make jokes and make people laugh but also help people in natural disasters and comfort those people who are sad or lonely, encourage them or make them laugh.

Pepper went on sale in Japan for around $2, 000 in February 2015. For now, several Peppers are at Softbank stores in Tokyo for people to visit. The creators said they wanted the robots to store more knowledge, to do better in getting along with human.

Extreme weather seems to be everywhere these days. It is sometimes related to climate change. Yet it can be hard to see the effect on people's lives. I began documenting that effect in 2007, when I pictured two floods that occurred within weeks of each other, one in the U.K. and the other in India. I was deeply shocked by the different effects of these floods and the damage that their victims seemed to share.

Since then I have visited flood zones around the world. I travelled to many countries, like Australia, Thailand and Nigeria. In flooded places, life is suddenly turned upside down, and normal life is temporarily gone.

Photos are the most important in my research. I often follow people as they return home through deep waters, and work with them to take a close look at their flooded homes. Though their poses may be conventional, their environment is changed. The change makes them upset. Often they're      about their circumstances or the improper response from the government. Many want their sufferings to be seen and want the world to know what has happened to them.

I shoot on film with old Rolleiflex cameras. Digital would be easier, but thetextureof film has a particular quality for me. The use of an old camera makes the situation more formal and serious.

In many cultures, the flood is described as a destructive force in old stories. It makes humans feel powerless. As weather becomes more extreme, the story in the Bible(圣经) is becoming literal.
