Sports movies are never just about sports. They are stories of the human spirit. But the best ones always make you want to stand up. Several sports movies will come out in China this year. Take a look at three of them.

In the 1980s, the Chinese women's national volleyball team won the first gold medal for China in the world. People cheered for them.

Leapdirected by Chen Kexin, which was put off in the Spring Festival due to COVID-19, shows how volleyball players went on a journey to become the top team in the world.

Gong Li played the role of Lang Ping, a Chinese volleyball team's present head coach.

Li Na was the first Asian tennis player in history to win at the French Open 2011 and Australian Open 2014  Li is one of China's best-known players.

The movie tells a story of Li who achieved greater success than she ever expected. Li became a symbol of independence and hope.

The movie was directed by Chen Kexin which was finished last year.

Table tennis is closely related to China's national pride. Rong Guotuan won China's first international gold medal at the 25th World Table Tennis Championships in 1959. Deng Yaping and Wang Nan are national heroes in China.

The movie which will be directed by Zhang Yimou in May this year tells the story of a Chinese ping pong player, Yuan Xin played by Deng Chao, who was beaten by Japanese player Abe in 2016. After years of hard training, he was determined to win his honor back during the Olympic Ping Pong Games.

Inspiration can be a strange thing. You never know when it might hit. And sometimes, it can come from the most unexpected places.

I recently read about an author(作家) named Okorafor. When she was in college, she had a serious spine disorder(脊椎病). Okorafor was told that a simple operation(手术) could fix it.

But when she woke up from her operation, she found that she couldn't move her legs and was in great pain.

Okorafor got well later. But before she did, she saw strange things in her hospital room.

She imagined her pain as a beast(野兽)that hunted her from the shadows. But she also imagined a woman-a woman who could fly, in fact. This magical woman inspired her and helped her forget her pain. "I felt greater than myself. I felt myself become greater," she wrote in her book Broken Places & Outer Spaces: Finding Creativity in the Unexpected.

We never know where we might find the inspiration to create. As a musician, most of my inspiration comes from other people's music. But I also find ideas in other places. Books, movies and even just moments in everyday life can lead to new creations.

For example, I recently watched the film Blade Runner. I've seen it plenty of times before; it's one of my favorite movies. But this time, for some reason, I saw it differently. I decided to make music that could create the same feeling as the film. It's not done yet, but the movie's setting and characters impacted the music I'm working on now heavily.

Anything can inspire us. You just have to be ready to catch inspiration when it hits.

In recent years, a growing number of Chinese books and movies have been translated into other languages. Many of the translators are young people who are interested in learning Chinese culture.

Anna Holmwood is one of them. Before she translated in Yong's novelLegends of the Condor Heroes(《射雕英雄传》), the writer was little known to English readers. One reason for this is that his works were too difficult to translate.

But Anna managed to do it. Attracted by the book's themes as well as Chinese philosophy(哲学), Anna hoped to bring it to Englishmen. After five years of work, the translated book came out in 2018. It was printed seven times in several months in the UK. Many people think Anna did a good job of explaining things that are “untranslatable”.

Learning history at the University of Oxford, Anna began to learn Chinese at 21 after a trip in China. She calls herself "a clumsy(笨拙的) student, just like Guo Jing, but with a truthful heart".

As more young people learn to translate Chinese texts and films, more Chinese stories will become available to the world.
