Life Is Beautiful is a 1997 Italian film directed by and starring Roberto Benigni. The film was a critical and financial success, winning Benigni the Academy Award for Best Actor as well as the Academy Award for Best Original Dramatic Score and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

In 1939 in the Kingdom of Italy, a bookstore keeper Guido, who is a Jew, falls in love with a local school teacher, Dora, who is to be engaged to a rich civil servant. Guido steals her from her engagement party on a horse. Soon they are married and have a son, Giosue.

In 1945, Guido and his son are forced onto a train and taken to a concentration camp. Despite being a non-Jew, Dora demands to be on the same train to join her family. In the camp, Guido hides their true situation from his son, telling him that the camp is a complicated game in which Giosue must perform the tasks Guido gives him, earning him points;the first team to reach 1,000 points will win a tank.

Guido uses this game to explain features of the concentration camp that would otherwise be scary for a young child. Despite being surrounded by the misery, sickness and death at the camp, Giosue does not question this fiction because of his father's convincing performance and his own innocence. Guido keeps the story right until the end when, in the chaos(混乱)of shutting down the camp as the Americans approach, he tells his son to stay in a small box until everybody has left, this being the final competition before the tank is his. Guido tries to find Dora, but is caught and killed by a Nazi soldier. As he is taken away to be shot, he maintains the fictions of the game by marching in a goose-step on purpose…

Did you know that almost 100% of the materials in your mobile phone can be recovered and recycled to generate energy or make new products, such as plastic products, electronics or even jewelry? Every mobile phone contains significant amounts of copper, aluminum, gold, plastic and other non-metals that can be recycled and reused.

The Singtel x SingPost E-waste Recycling Programme, launched on World Environment Day, 5 June 2017, is a cooperation between the two leading ICT and postal companies as part of their environmental sustainability efforts.

Called ReCYCLE, the programme provides the means for people to do their part for the environment by recycling their mobile and internet related electronic waste such as mobile phones and chargers, laptops and tablets, modems and routers, and other related accessories(配件).

These unwanted devices can be dropped off into the ReCYCLE bins at selected Singtel Shop and Singtel Exclusive Retailer outlets and Post Offices. You can also ask for a ReCYCLE envelope from any Singtel Shop and Singtel Exclusive Retailer outlets, and Post Offices, and mail your mobile device and accessories at no charge.

This programme reduces waste as it ensures that the valuable metals and components the devices contain get recovered. However, e-waste that is often thrown away, including all the precious metals that it contains, will be burnt and landfilled at Semakau Landfill.

Is the data in my e-waste safe when sent for recycling?

We assured that all storage media devices like SIM cards, memory cards, USB flash drives and hard drives are safe for recycling. Cimelia, our e-waste recycling partner is a reliable and NEA-licensed company, which are only interested in extracting(提取) the precious metals from the devices, NOT the data in them. The devices will go through a crushing process for secure destruction after the whole extraction process.

Why is poverty so difficult to overcome? Why are poorer people less likely to spend money on their own learning and ability development, but more likely to be addicted to television and video games?

In the past, a poor person was normally considered to have bad virtue or have no ambition. The Nobel Prize winner Banerjee corrects such views and explains the truth behind the poor. Poor people tend to live with more worries in their lives, he said, so they need tools such as televisions, cell phones, junk food and video games to get rid of worries more than others. But learning something often takes a lot of time and money to get rewards, while the poor are often impatient due to economic (经济的) reasons, and their life in the meantime is getting more boring.

Banerjee's research has found that the poor often need to borrow short-term loans (贷款) Thus, the poor tend to take higher financial risks — they often have unstable incomes and are unable to get money to start a business from banks, so they rely more on these high-interest loans. And these small loans put a brake on their savings against risks.

How could the poor step into the middle class? Maybe starting a business is a way out. But for the extremely poor, it's impossible to get help from banks to start a business. In most cases, a more practical option is getting a job in government agencies because comparatively speaking, government jobs are very stable, which give the poor the opportunities to be hired for the long term, to increase the "bandwidth (带宽) " of their thinking, and thus making it possible for families to move from poverty to the middle class.

What's the role of government then? When the market can't solve a problem, the government will solve it. And the problem behind the poor is actually the failure of the market. The poor often lack the necessary information to make the right choices and they often carry too much responsibility for their survival to make the best choices. In this sense, Banerjee's research provides a new perspective for governments to understand poverty, so that policies can be tailored to reduce poverty and eventually remove it.

Any exercise is good exercise, but when it comes to losing weight, it's hard to beat running. After all, running is one of the most efficient ways to burn calories and get fit without having to restrict your diet.  If you're not a runner yet but interested in losing weight, here are four reasons running can be the best exercise for weight loss.

When comparing running with walking the same distance, studies find that running will lead to greater weight loss, most likely because your resting energy expenditure stays elevated(高的) after you run. In a long-term comparison study of runners and walkers, calories burned through running led to 90% more weight loss than calories burned through walking.

Running is time-efficient. Even if the myth that running a mile and walking a mile burn the same number of calories were true, running is a considerably faster way to burn those calories.

Running is convenient. Though many of us have accumulated a vast arsenal(武器,装备) of GPS gadgets and tech tees over the years, little is actually required to go running. You can do it alone. You can do it almost anywhere.  For this reason alone, running is the best workout for weight loss because it's cheap and accessible, and there are fewer barriers to maintaining a routine, even while traveling.

Two words: runner's high.  Fortunately, studies support what many runners have experienced on an anecdotal level—running can actually get you high. Scientists have found links between moderate to intense exercise and morphine-like brain chemicals, which explains the occasional flood of thrill that rushes over you during a hard run. That happy sensation you had after your last race makes you want to go for another run, right?

A. Cultivate the good habit of running.

B. Running works even when you're at rest.

C. You will never stick to a habit if you don't like it.

D. The first rule of exercising for weight loss is that if you don't enjoy it, you won't stick with it.

E. You don't need any equipment beyond a pair of running shoes.

F. If you're already a runner, keep on.

G. Most people can run two or three times as far as they can walk in a given amount of time.
