They say there are three ways to experience the Grand Canyon; on foot, on mules(骡子) or by air. We chose the first. Up early, my husband and I and our three children couldn't wait to get started. We decided to walk along a lovely path named Bright Angel Trail.

As we set out, I was shocked at how narrow the path was. And I couldn't help noticing that the other tourists weren't like us. They had heavy backpacks, water bottles, and hats. But as usual we were dressed. As the sun rose higher, Arizona's famous heat seemed to roast us. There was no shade and our legs were aching. We decided to go back, with the girl on my back and the boys far behind. By the time we finally got back, our legs were like jelly.

The next day, after we'd had a long rest and a good breakfast, we were ready for another view of the Canyon—by air. After our last walk, this would be the easiest thing in the world.

We called to each other excitedly as the plane took off and circled around the Canyon. But the smiles on our faces disappeared as the pilot tossed(翻转) the plane around, pretending he was going to hit the ground. I shouted, "STOP, TAKE US BACK!" When we finally arrived back on land, once again our legs were like jelly. We hardly spoke as we drove back.

As I said, there are three ways to view the Grand Canyon. We never tried the mules, but personally I'd suggest a fourth: buy yourself a good magazine like National Geographic. That way, you can see the Canyon, without fear or tiredness.

Global fast-food giant McDonald's announced it would be phasing out(逐步淘汰)plastic straws(吸管)in China. The move is expected to reduce plastic waste by about 400 tons a year. According to the announcement, from June 30, nearly 1,000 stores in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen began to phase out plastic straws for both dine-in and take-out, expanding to all stores in China by the end of 2020. Diners would drink cold beverages directly through the new cup cover.

Zhang Jiayin, CEO of McDonald's China, expressed that McDonald's is devoted to building up an environmentally friendly "beautiful China". "We believe that taking advantage of McDonald's influence worldwide, reducing straws can be a huge step for sustainable development. In the past decade or so, we have continued to carry out the green packaging action." Zhang said, "This movement is playing a positive role in the protection of the ecological environment."

The move is in keeping with China's national plan to phase out single-use plastics which came into effect in January of this year, in an effort to combat its growing trash problem.

Among other things, the government carries out a nationwide ban on plastic straws, disposable cutlery(一次性餐具), as well as plastic bags in major cities by the end of 2020, and nationwide by 2022.

Plastic has increasingly played a role in global solid waste, and has choked oceans and rivers as well as landfills. Both companies and volunteers in the past few years have taken it upon themselves to respond to this plastic problem in their own ways.

Forty-nine years ago, on April 22, 1970, twenty million Americans took to the streets to voice their concern about thedeterioratingenvironment. The movement led to Earth Day.

Unfortunately, our planet is in worse shape now than it was when Earth Day was first celebrated. The good news is that it's still not too late to reverse (转变) climate change if we all do our part. This Earth Day, take the first step towards helping our planet by participating in one of these fun activities.

NASA is putting our planet up for adoption so you and your friend can apply for a portion (份额) of the planet as your own. The space agency has divided the globe into 64,000 sections, each about 55 miles wide. All you have to do is type your name into NASA's "Adopt the Planet" site and you will be offered the location of your "slice of paradise (天堂) "complete with details of its environment and climate. NASA hopes that this activity will inspire interest and care about our planet.

Search giant Google is also trying to engage the public with an updated Google Earth focused on Earth Day events. Through a new Voyager feature, users will be able to discover stories from around the world, learn about new places by reading "Knowledge Cards" and send postcards.

If you happen to be anywhere near the nation's capital on April 22, join the millions that are expected to participate in the Earth Day March at the National Mail. The mission of the event that will feature guest speakers and musical performances is to mobilize (动员) citizens into taking action by promoting this year's Earth Day theme; climate and environmental science literacy.

While participating in the above-mentioned activities is a great idea, it is just the beginning. All that is required are small lifestyle changes. Planting a tree or two, going meatless just one day a week, or switching your plastic water bottle for a reusable one will go a long way to help reverse the damage we have caused.

If something that you're doing doesn't challenge you, then it doesn't change you. We all need some normal stress in our lives, after all. So challenge the following limits:

Figure out what you're scared of and do it continuously. If you're a salesman, and you're scared of talking to people personally or over the phone, now, instead of being scared and thinking you'll fail, spend at least five minutes a day to pick up the phone and make a call.  But don't stop on the first try! Eventually, you can look at fear in the eyes and say, "Go on, I'm not scared!"

Make sure this hobby is not linked to your career; you have to relax and relieve your stress while performing this. So some examples might be cooking, sewing, painting and so on. Apart from helping you challenge yourself, taking a class for your hobby may also give you extra income.

Set aside at least nine minutes a day for physical exercise.  A simple 9-minute run around your neighborhood can do wonders for yourself. Exercise can not only help you maintain your regular weight, but also make you feel better about yourself.

Travel and allow yourself to be interested in new people. Don't just limit yourself to your fellow travelers—try to connect with the local people. You never know what kind of people they're going to be.

A. You should do it continuously.

B. You don't need to go to the gym.

C. Someone may hang up on you.

D. Running in the gym may be a better choice.

E. Start to travel now and learn to challenge yourself.

F. Take a class for a hobby you've been wanting to develop.

G. You can never see any improvement if you stick to your comfort zone.
