Four TV Shows to Watch on New Year's Eve

If you are finding yourself on New Year's Eve without any plans, or you just want to start the New Year with a show you haven't watched before, here are four great TV shows to stream. Click here.

Acapulco

Searching for light-hearted laughs and want a unique concept? Acapulco is the show for you.  As we reported when the series first dropped,Acapulcofollows the story of Maximo Gallardo, whose life changes when he starts working in a resort in Acapulco, Mexico. The series stars Julian Sedgwick, Rossana De Leon, Lobo Elias, Sofia Ruiz, and Eugenio Derbez.

The Shrink Next Door

This show will make you angry and anxious, but most brilliant shows do!The Shrink NextDoor is based on true events that happened to a patient, Marty (Will Ferrell) who forms a close bond with his psychiatrist, one that the psychiatrist (Paul Rudd) took advantage of.

Ted Lasso Season 2

We have all heard aboutTed Lasso, whether you've seen it or not. What are you waiting for? Stop being so stubborn and watch it!Ted Lassois a gut-punch of emotions you won't see coming. It's a comedy and a silly one, but it doesn't pull any punches when it comes to hard-hitting topics such as mental health.  And if you're searching for something that won't takeall weekend,Ted Lassois perfect!

See Season 2

I feel like See is a bit underrated (被低估的) and it truly shouldn't be. The story is fun, as well as the action and characters, and season 2 does a great job at keeping us guessing and holding our interest. The world of See is set in a distant future in which humans have lost their sight after a virus swept the world. Humanity has adapted and having vision is only a myth.

Zea Tongeman, a 14-year-old student, who is-crazy about the Internet, applied technology to create an application that encourages people to recycle while having fun.

Zea was really inspired when she attended "Little Miss Geek Day", an event that aims at making technology more accessible and appealing to young women and inspiring them to consider technology careers. Soon after, she entered "Apps for Good", a competition that encourages students to create positive change through technology. Teaming up with her friend, Jordan Stirbu, she laid the foundations for "Jazzy Recycling".

The "Jazzy Recycling" application is designed to encourage young people to recycle more, which wins the favor of the youth. It turns waste disposal into a game and helps you find places to recycle. Then you scan what you need to recycle, share it, and get rewards such as shopping vouchers (代金券) and games to be unlocked for what you have recycled.

Tapping into the teen enthusiasm for sharing every little aspect of their daily life on social media like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, recycling efforts can be shared too as a fun game among friends, which makes more people take part in recycling activities.

Zea explains why she is addicted to the Internet and how technology has changed her ideas about the future, "I used to think technology was just fixing computers and using smartphones; I have become very tired from just using what is available. I have discovered another side to it and that I can make technology of my own."

In fact, Zea Tongeman has taken the idea of recycling seriously and hopes all her fellow beings would give it a serious thought. This teen girl from the United Kingdom has made use of computer programming to create her own app that would encourage people to go recycling for a better world.

On Tuesday, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a series of new high-producing crop varieties, including herbicide-tolerant (耐除草剂的) rice that can be directly planted into the soil, cutting the huge expenses on water and farm workers.

In India, the world's biggest rice exporter, the traditional method of rice growing requires farmers to grow seeds in nurseries, and then wait for 20 to 30 days before transplanting the small plants by hand into the fields that are ankle-deep in water.

With the new seed varieties developed by the state-run Indian Agricultural Research Institute, farmers only need to water the field once to moisten (使湿润) the soil before planting the rice. Besides, the traditional method also uses a lot of water to control weeds as herbicides are costly and often do not distinguish between the rice and the unwanted weeds.

Government scientists said the new rice varieties contained a gene that would allow farmers to spray a common, inexpensive herbicide without worrying about any side effects. "Our focus is very high on new seeds that can be adapted to new conditions, especially in changing climates," Modi said.

Water conservation is likely to be the main attraction of the new rice varieties in India, where farmers rely heavily on monsoon (季风) rains. The traditional method uses 3,000 to 5,000 liters of water to produce 1 kg rice. The new varieties could cut water use by at least 50% to 60%, farmers and government officials say. "For farmers like us, the main concern was the management of water, and the new varieties take care of that concern," said Ravindra Kajal, who grows rice on his 9-acre farmland in the northern state of Haryana. India is also the world's biggest rice producer after China.

One CT image of a brain changed science and medicine forever.

Half a century ago, the first CT image of a patient lifted the veil (面纱) of invisibility that. covers the interior of the human body, providing scientists a window on our innards (内脏) unlike any before.

Today, doctors in the United States alone order more than 80 million scans per year. X-ray computed tomography, or CT, is frequently the quickest way of getting a handle on what's causing a mysterious problem. CT scans can find out heart disease, tumors, blood clots, internal bleeding and more. The technique can give surgeons aheads-upabout what they will encounter inside a patient, and guide treatment for cancer and other diseases.

"It answers so many questions quickly. That's why it's used," says medical physicist Cynthia McCollough of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

A CT scan involves thousands of X-ray measurements taken from multiple angles. Here's how it works: A source of X-rays moves around the body, sending a beam (光束) of radiation through bone, blood and tissue, while moving detectors measure the beam that makes it through.

Different materials in the body absorb X-rays differently. The calcium (钙) in bone actively absorbs X-rays, for example, while soft tissues absorb less. So when the data collected by the detectors are joined together by a computer, it can form a cross-sectional view of what's inside based on where X-rays are absorbed more or less. Moving the table holding the patient so that the X-ray beam and detectors slide along the body enables 3-D reconstructions of organs and other parts.

Over the years, scientists have continually improved the technology, making it faster and higher resolution (清晰度), and cutting the amount of radiation that patients receive. These improved CT scans have painted ever more detailed landscapes of the human body. It's hard not to be impressed by the beauty of the inner world that the scans bring to the surface.
