When I was young. I never fully appreciated why my parents signed me up for every music class. I viewed practicing the piano and the violin as a burden, or something that had to be done every day before being able to watch Disney Channel.

While the majority of my classmates would bond over their dislike of learning an instrument. I found myself gradually expecting to learn new songs, practice them and perform them. Maybe it's because my parents used Disney Channel as anincentive, or maybe I just needed their early push. Regardless. I came to appreciate music as a form of self-expression.

Learning musical notes has benefits to language development and cognitive (以知的) functions. Studies have shown that the left planum temporale, the part of the brain involved in hearing processing and receptive language, is active when musicians are either reading and listening to music or comprehending speech. But when non-musicians are listening to music, their brains do not process it in the same area as language—while processing language is a natural ability, music awareness is something that can be obtained through practicing.

Take Finland for example, where the average person learns to speak three to five languages. This is a result of the country's custom of early music training. in which children learn the fundamentals of musical notes through songs and games. In fact, a study reveals a strong connection between children who study music before and the development of higher IQs and a bigger range of vocabulary.

In addition, evolutionary evidence from Oxford University highlights how speech and language started developing merely 200.000 years ago. It's clear that the neural networks of both music and language have overlap(重叠部分), and that our use of speech as a form of communication has its roots in the original evolutionary history of music. So if you're looking to learn something new, consider picking up a new instrument!

Life doesn't always tum out to be the way we'd like. When situations take an unfavorable tum, we become upset, frustrated, or angry. When others don't agree with us, or act in a manner we find disturbing, anger is a typical response. With the exception of a few extreme circumstances, an angry reaction rarely improves the situation or helps us change our mind. Thoughtful consideration of what feelings and reaction are most helpful actually restores our real power, so consider the following alternatives to anger.

Compassion (同情), consisting of both understanding and empathy, can be a perfect solution to anger. Each person has the right to live a life according to their beliefs, dreams, needs. etc. If someone is acting improperly or not living up to our ideals. We need to remove the "should" and remind ourselves that it is a necessary par of their life's journey. Choosing this alternative response softens one's heart and prevents anger from arising.

Humor is another powerful tool for lessening anger. We take life and personal offense far too seriously. After all. Others' behavior is a reflection of their internal spirits and has nothing at all to do with us and in reality, it is relatively unimportant. Humor puts any serious situation in place. It acts as a protective barrier to emotional pain as we recognize that what is happening has nothing at all to do with us.

So when others behave badly, forgive them for their bad behavior rather than judge them in your heart. When life hands us the exact opposite of what we request, make light of it. After all, this situation is only temporary so why get sobent out of shapewhen it isn't in line with your ideals? Rain on your wedding day? Break out of the umbrellas and boots and dance in the puddles(小水坑)!

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

Orbital structures(轨道结构) are becoming increasingly important for worldwide communications and a new generation of technologies. But scientists are warning that the danger of space debris(碎片) is rapidly increasing. Space debris can include pieces of old rockets, non-operational satellites, lost tools and other items. They present a risk to spaceships, satellites and space stations.

In an effort to reduce the amount of debris orbiting the Earth, a group of economists at the University of Colorado at Boulder proposed a yearly fee, or tax, on satellite operators for their use of an orbital path. The group's study on the subject appeared recently in the publication Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Matthew Burgess helped write the study. He said in a statement: "Space is a common resource. but companies aren't accounting for the cost their satellites impose(迫使) on other operators when they decide whether or not to launch. So we need a policy that lets satellite operators directly factor in the costs their launches impose on other operators.

Akhil Rao was the lead writer of the study. He said most of the proposed answers to the problem have been based on using technology to clear away the debris. But, Burgess said, removing debris only means that operators will launch more satellites, and an international treaty(条约) calling for a yearly fee or tax would push companies to be more mindful about launching further objects into space.

Christopher Newman is a professor of space law at Northumbria University in Britain. He said that imposing a space tax could be tricky. New man noted that such a cost could be seen as a restriction on the free use of space, and the effort to place a fee on the use of space could easily be slowed by the many details involved.
