Hello, everyone! I'm Bing Dwen Dwen(冰墩墩). Do you know me? I'm the mascot for the Beijing Winter Olympics. I wear a helmet(头盔). It's made of ice. My helmet stands for the snow and ice of winter sports. In Chinese, "bing" means ice and"dwen dwen" means lively.
This is my friend, Shuey Rhon Rhon(雪容融), the Paralympic mascot. It looks like a red lantern. "Shuey"is the Chinese word for snow and "rhon rhon" stands for tolerance and integration(宽容和融合). In Chinese culture, lanterns means "harvest, warmth and light".
What winter sports can you do?There are 7 sports in the Olympics, such as skiing, skating and ice hockey(冰球). Which ones did you watch?
The Olympics have 25 venues(场馆). Let's look at two of them. One is Ice Ribbon(冰丝带). Speed skating events are here. This venue uses CO2(二氧化碳)to make ice. Another is Snow Ruyi(雪如意). It looks like a jade ruyi(玉如意). In China, a jade ruyi stands for luck. Some ski sports are here.
