Several years ago, I took a summer vacation in Lecce in southern Italy. After climbing up a hill for a panoramic(全景的) view of the blue sea, white buildings and green olive trees, I paused to catch my breath and then positioned myself to take the best photo of this panorama.

What would she think if she knew that her figure is captured(捕捉) and frozen on some stranger's bedroom wall? A bedroom, after all, is a very private space, in which some woman I don't even know has been immortalized(使……永存). In some ways, she lives in my house.

Perhaps we all live in each others' spaces. Perhaps this is what photos are for: to remind us that we all appreciate beauty, that we all share a common desire for pleasure, for connection, for something that is greater than us.

That photo is a reminder, a captured moment, an unspoken conversation between two women, separated only by a thin square of glass.

Destinee Whitaker was in fourth grade when she learned that millions of people around the world lack clean water.

Then Whitaker connected with Joseph Sackor, who runs the Liberia Medical Mission—an organization that provides medical care to Liberians who lack health services. Sackor accepted the school's money and agreed to deliver the systems to people who needed them.

Whitaker dreams of someday launching(发起)her own nonprofit organization to bring clean water to more people in need.

"Some students in Liberia can't even go to school because their parents cannot afford to buy them bottled water," Sackor said. "This money is huge."

One summer, a biker friend invited me join him in a bike festival. He said we could camped at the festival and that he had plenty of rooms in his tent for me.
