Multiple measures have been taken to fight food waste, but a young man is making a big difference with technology. Liu Jichen, a student from Tsinghua University, has developed a Wechat mini-program

called Clear Your Plate. After a meal. users can open the mini-program and take a picture of their empty plates. Once the image is recognized by the AI, students can collect points and use them to buy gifts or charity meals which will be donated to children in poor rural areas. Liu and his team launched the Clear Your Plate campaign in November, 2020 for the third year. It has swept over 1, 017 universities across the country. The one-month campaign attracted almost 1. 6 million participants and collectively reduced food waste by 862 tons and carbon emissions by 3, 337 tons.

The idea, to develop such a mini-program came from Liu's experience in a canteen. In 2017, he found that a restaurant would give diners who finished off their food a card and offer small gifts after a certain number of cards had been collected. “Technological innovation is a good way to reduce food waste, ”Liu thought. He organized a team of 20 members to work on the proiect at the end of 2017. To solve the AI's problem of identifying photos of empty plates, the team spent half a year collecting over 100, 000 samples in canteens and restaurants. In 2018. the mini-program was officially put into operation. They then launched a campaign later that year.

There were so many unknowns in research and development. For our team members. the biggest psychological challenge was whether we were confident enough to complete it, ”said Liu

Now, they have achieved their goal, and the mini-program has more than five million registered users.

“We hope that our efforts can start a new trend among the younger generation by encour- aging them to cherish their food and develop the habit of thrift(节约),” Liu said. “ Through the campaign, we hope to inspire everyone to take action against food waste and contribute Chinese wisdom and solutions to global food security challenges. ”

Masks that helped save lives are proving a deadly danger to wildlife, with birds and sea creatures trapped in the shocking number of thrown-away facial coverings. Single-use masks have been found around pavements, waterways and beaches worldwide. Worn once, the thin protective materials can take hundreds of years todecompose. “Face masks aren't going away any time soon — but when we throw them away, these items can harm the environment and the animals, ” Ashley Fruno of animal rights group PETA said.

In Britain, a gull was rescued by the RSPCA after its legs became tangled in the straps (带子) of a mask for up to a week. The animal welfare charity took it to a wildlife hospital for treatment before its release.

The biggest effect may be in the water. More than 1. 5 billion masks made their way into the world's oceans last year, accounting for around 6, 200 extra tonnes of ocean plastic pollution, according to environmental group Oceans Asia.

Conservationists in Brazil found one mask inside the stomach of a penguin after its body was washed up on a beach, while a dead puffer fish was discovered caught inside another off the coast of Miami. French campaigners found a dead crab trapped in a mask near the Mediterranean.

Masks and gloves are “particularly problematic” for sea creatures, says George Leonard, chief scientist from NGO Ocean Conservancy. “When those plastics break down in the environment, they then enter the food chain and impact the entire ecosystems, ” he added.

There has been a shift towards greater use of reusable cloth masks as the pandemic (疫情) has worn on, but many are still using the lighter single-use varieties. Campaigners have urged people to bin them properly and cut the straps to reduce the risk of animals becoming trapped. Oceans Asia has also called on governments to increase fines for littering and encourage the use of washable masks.

An improvement in the immune system process would not be a good thing. It would mean your immune system was overactive, and overactive immune systems can lead to some problems.  Don't worry! Here are some basic steps you can take to ensure it is normal and thus functioning.

Get enough sleep.  It makes your body easier to get sick, as does an irregular sleep schedule. A single night of only 4 to 5 hours of sleep causes your natural killer cells to drop by 70%. Increase your chances of fending off illness by allowing yourself a solid 7 to 9 hours of shut-eye nightly.

Eat well. Fuel your body by eating a wide range of plant-based, fiber-rich, and colorfully varied foods. There is no strong scientific evidence for any specific type of food being linked to better immune function, so you can ignore the supplements (增补药) being marketed toward the coronavirus in particular.

Keep exercising. Exercise has many benefits. It helps to maintain immune health by getting white blood cells moving through the body.  If you're already feeling ill, however, you can continue exercising as long as your symptoms are above the chest. If your conditions are further down, take a break for a few days.

This advice is everywhere these days, but don't stop paying attention to it. Keep washing your hands! It's the simplest and most effective protection against catching unwanted bacteria. Think about reducing places for bacteria to hide, such as under long fingernails and rings, either by wearing fewer of them or including in your hand-scrubbing.

A. Practice good health habits.

B. Bury your bad habits in the water.

C. You might want it to function normally.

D. It boosts feelings of well-being and happiness.

E. Little sleep is like a giant welcome mat for illnesses.

F. Focus on getting your nutrition from whole foods instead.

G. You are going to be good at containing and fighting it off.
