When you are about to go to a boarding school in England, there are many different questions that may come to mind. But once you look at them with some perspective, you will certainly feel easy. Here is a normal boarding day.

Early Morning:

Usually boarders get up around 7: 00 am and have around an hour to take a shower and put on their uniform before breakfast.

Lessons:

Classes start at 9: 00 am and every lesson lasts for 50 minutes. After two lessons, at 10: 40 am, you'll have a short break. The next period of classes will include two more lessons.

Lunch:

Lunch is usually held around 12: 30 pm at the dining hall, where you'll join your friends to enjoy a hot dish. After an hour of lunch, you'll have three or four more lessons to attend.

Dinner:

At 5: 00 pm you will have finished your school lessons for the day. Most boarding schools in the UK offer their full boarders different kinds of hot meals to choose from.

Activities/ Sports:

All boarding schools in the UK provide many different kinds of activities for their boarders, such as football, swimming, golf or art.

Prep:

An important part of boarding school life is the supervised homework session known as "prep". Although prep might sound stressful, it's a great way for you to keep up with your studies.

Free time:

Once you are done with all your classes and activities, it's time to relax.

Bedtime:

In most boarding schools, the lights go out around 10: 30 pm.

Being nervous just before you go to a boarding school is completely normal and understandable. Hopefully, being aware of the usual routine you'll be following can help you. Once you are there, you will also see how exciting life in a boarding school in England can be.

I started playing football when I was 7 or 8 years old after my brothers had agreed to let their little sister join in their games. I'm from a very small town and at that time no other girls played football in my town. People said football wasn't for women and my family shouldn't let me play. They also said I wouldn't make it, and that I wasn't good enough.

As a child, I didn't really understand why people were so against me playing when I could play it well! I fought back by showing my talent (天赋) on the streets.

My greatest inspiration was my mother. We came from a poor family; my mom separated from my dad when I was less than a year old and she raised four children on her own. She worked all day, had little time to spend with us, but she never gave up. I found my strength from her to keep going.

Every win is important for me, from the time when I was playing in amateur (业余的) teams among the boys to the first win as part of the Brazilian national team, and now. I remember when I went back to my town in 2006 after winning the award for the best female player in the world. When I arrived, it was nearly midnight and the whole town was awake, waiting for me. I got into a fireman's truck and people were waving. That achievement could happen because I hadn't given up that first moment I heard a "no".

Sport changed my life completely. It gave me the opportunity (机会) to help my family, meet other people, see other countries and experience other cultures. Sport is a tool for empowering girls, because it gives you the opportunity to do what you want and learn to respect the differences between people.

For me, it's a great honor to be a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador (亲善大使). Today, I am here to use my story to inspire many more girls and women and to create opportunities so that next generation doesn't have to go through what I did.

If you're homeless and looking for a temporary shelter in Hawaii's capital, expect a visit from a robotic police dog that will scan your eyes to make sure you don't have a fever. That's just one of the ways public safety agencies are starting to use Spot, a new robot that runs around with quick movement.

The police officials experimenting with the four-legged machines say they're just another tool to keep emergency responders out of harm's way as they search for dangers.

Joseph O'Neal, an officer of the Honolulu Police Department, said the robot has protected officers, shelter staff and residents by scanning body temperatures between mealtimes at a shelter where homeless people could quarantine (隔离) and get tested for COVID-19. The robot is also used to remotely interview individuals who have tested positive.

The company that makes the robots, Boston Dynamics, says it's trying to do a good job of explaining to the public and its customers what Spot can and cannot do. "One of the most difficult tasks is accurately explaining the state of the technology to people who have never had personal experience with it," said Michael Perry, vice president of the company.

There are roughly 500 Spot robots now in the wild. Perry said they're commonly used by companies to check dangerous areas. Spot is also used to monitor construction sites, mines and factories, equipped with whatever sensor is needed for the job.

It's still mostly controlled by humans, though all they have to do is tell it which direction to go and it can climb stairs or cross over rough areas. It can also operate autonomously, but only if it's already memorized a road and there aren't too many surprise obstacles (障碍). "The first value that most people see in the robot is taking a person out of a dangerous situation," Perry said.

Scientists have recently developed a method to 3D-print greener buildings using local soil that they say has the potential to revolutionise the construction industry.

Sarbajit Banerjee, a professor of chemistry and materials science and engineering at Texas A&M University, said 3D printing enabled a versatility that allowed them to print entire architectural facades, although getting such structures to meet existing building regulations remained a significant challenge.

Concrete remains the primary material used in many construction projects but it cannot be recycled and requires a lot of energy to mix and transport. The research team's aim is to print structures using the type of soil that can be found in any garden.

"While the widespread use of concrete has widespread access to housing and enabled the growth of cities, this has come at a considerable environmental cost," said Banerjee.

"The move to 3D-print concrete threatens toexacerbatethis problem. However, we envision a new example of construction that uses naturally sourced materials. Using such materials will further pave the way for building designs that are specifically adapted to the needs of the local climate.

What's more, the use of local materials would reduce the need to transport concrete long distances, further reducing the environmental impact of the buildings.

The research team's plan to replace concrete with the earth beneath our feet depends on their ability to improve the soil's capability to stand the weight of the whole house, to which Banerjee said they "are making excellent progress".

Once they have a clearer idea of the limits of the technology, Banerjee and his team plan to further investigate how it might allow for building on other planets. For instance, they have worked on addressing the problem of building all-weather roads in the subarctic. They hope the technology could one day be used beyond Earth, to create settlements on the moon or even Mars.

Swap, Don't shop!

You keep hearing about recycling right? But it doesn't end with bottles, cans, and paper. Clothing takes a huge amount of natural resources(资源)to make and buying loads of new clothing (or throwing out old clothing)is not healthy for the environment.

So what to do with all those perfectly good but you're maybe a little sick of them clothes piled on your bedroom floor? . It's the best way to get rid of your used clothes, score clothes from your friends, and have a party all at the same time.

A successful swap depends on the selection of clothes the organization of the event, and, obviously, how much fun it had. It's really easy to do! Here are a few pointers.

• Invite 5-10 people so you have a nice selection. , and there may not be enough things to choose from; more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.

. They should also prepare plenty of reusable bags to carry their "new" clothes home.

• Put different types of clothing on different surfaces in the room.  . Place a few mirrors around your room so people can see how things look when they try them on. One of the ground rules of the swap should be that everyone must try on the clothes before they take them—things always look different when you put them on.

• Set a starting time. Maybe you say "go",or turn on a certain song, or whatever. . And don't forget to put out some cookies and fruits. Remember, it's a party!

A. Less people than that

B. Hold a clothing swap

C. If two people are competing

D. Just keep music playing throughout

E. Donate whatever clothes are left over

On the first day of school, I stared in awe at the huge buildings. This high school was definitely bigger than the one I had previously attended.

This was my second year of high school, but my first year of school in St. Louis. I had decided the night before that I would be much happier in a new school if I made friends that were so-called "popular". Getting in with the right group of people would make my life a whole lot better. I even bought a new outfit and had my hair styled just so the first day would be perfect.

Scared, yet anxious to begin my new life, I walked up the stairs to the front door. The halls were packed with kids yelling and laughing and telling stories of their summer adventures. My first class was geometry, but where was that?

I was standing in the hall looking confused, when a short, blond girl wearing glasses came up and asked. "Are you new? You look lost. Do you need help? My name is Diane. What's yours?" Even though she seemed a bit strange, definitely not the kind of person I wanted to be associated with, I decided to answer her anyway. I was, after all, lost.

After exchanging names, I followed her up the stairs and down a hallway on the right, making polite conversation the whole way. When we reached my room she said, "Well, here you are. Welcome to JFK, and I hope your day goes all right. "

I said thanks and waved good-bye. Once inside the classroom, I saw one big group of people huddled around someone who seemed to be telling some sort of story. I walked over and got close enough to overhear. All eyes were glued to the guy in the middle of the circle who was wearing a letter jacket covered with patches. I decided that this guy was popular, so I managed to get a seat right next to him. I said. "Hi, my name is Lisa and I'm new here. "He said, "Johnny."
