Every year on April 22, the world celebrates Earth Day. It's a day that reminds people to protect our Earth, and it is a special day that celebrates the earth as well.

Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970, in San Francisco, California. Every year, over 100 different countries join together in the celebration of Earth Day. It is the largest, most celebrated environmental event around the world. On Earth Day, we remember nature and learn ways to protect our environment.

What Earth Day is all about is learning about and protecting our planet. People all over the world celebrate our efforts to protect plants and animals and to clean up the world we live in.

We can do lots of things for the earth. Here are some ideas to keep in mind.

*Recycle cans, bottles, and paper. Save them at home and at school, and help your family recycle them.

*Ride your bike or walk to school to keep the air clean.

*Use both sides of your paper at school and at home.

*Turn off the TV when you've finished watching it.

*Don't leave the water running while you brush your teeth.

*Turn off the lights when you leave the room.

And remember, don't ever think you're not important to our earth. You are! That's because Earth Day reminds us that we all share the same planet. Sharing Earth means that taking responsibility for what we use and how we use it. It is a day to think of the environmental changes we face and how to solve them. Protecting Earth is every person's and every country's responsibility.

It is often said that you cannot “teach an old dog new skills”, but three New Zealand dogs have decided to prove that they are different by learning a skill —driving a car!

What's even more surprising is that the three who have become good at driving in just eight weeks are not special dogs that belong to some rich owners, but abandoned(被遗弃的) ones at New Zealand's SPCA.

To get their training started, 10-month old Peter, 18-month old Monty and one-year old Ginny were selected by the SPCA's CEO and moved to Animal school that teaches animals skills for movies and television shows.

The two-month driving classes began with teaching the dogs some basic driving skills like turning the steering wheels(方向盘) and stopping the cars. After that the dogs practiced everything they had learnt in a special model car. Then finally, it was time for the big test —— driving a real car!

Though they all seemed to do very well, the real test came on Monday night when Monty, the best driver of the three, showed his great driving skill on live television with no human's help.

Why would the SPCA go through so much trouble to show the skills of homeless dogs. The reason is to show that keeping a dog does not mean owners are getting a pet that is worse than one bought it from a keeper. Betty, the CEO of the SPCA is hoping that this unusual event will be enough to make people in New Zealand to thinking about them, when looking for a pet.

The mysterious smile of the Mona Lisa has made it one of the most famous paintings in the world. Leonardo da Vinci painted it sometime between 1503 and 1519. It is a very old painting and has led a very interesting life. Sometimes works of art take on a life of their own and have amazing stories to tell.

In 1911, a man named Vincenzo Peruggia stole the painting from the Louvre Museum in France and tried to return it to Italy. He was from Italy and believed that the painting belonged to his home country, not France, because Leonardo da Vinci was Italian and he started the painting in Italy. The police couldn't find the painting for two years, and many worried they would never find it. Luckily, Peruggia tried to sell the painting to an Italian museum, and the police got the painting back.

After Vincenzo Peruggia, some other people also “mistreated” the Mona Lisa several times. In 1956, two people attacked the famous painting. The first person threw acid(酸) and damaged(破坏) the lower half of the painting. A few months later, a second person threw a rock and damaged the painting a little bit. In the following years, a few other people tried to damage the painting, but no one could get near enough to the painting as the museum had improved its way to protect the painting.

The priceless painting survived(幸存) but now sits behind bulletproof(防弹的) glass. Thousands of people see it every day for about 15 seconds or just enough time to take a picture. If the Mona Lisa could talk, what stories would it tell the public?

German scientists think that your brain keeps working while you' re asleep. To show that they were right, they gave two groups of students a problem to work out. Group one went to sleep, and Group Two stayed awake.

At the same time, from a recent study many children have missed out on 4,500 hours of sleep by the time they are seven years old. According to the Ministry of Education, primary school students should get at least 10 hours of sleep a night. The answer is nine. If they don't get enough sleep at night, they will face more challenging situations in schoolwork.

Schools are taking action to make sure the students can get enough sleep. Three reasons are mentioned for the problem. Firstly, they spend hours in scrolling(滚屏), such as Douyin and WeChat. Hours of watching the mobile phones can be harmful to their eyes and cause students to sleep less. They may work overtime to get the job finished and they can't watch over the kids. Lastly, drinks like tea or coffee can also keep them excited and awake.

For example, they should avoid using mobile phones too much, and drink something like milk before going to bed.

Only if schools, families and students join hands together, can students get enough sleep and be at their best in schoolwork.

A. But researchers say many students still sleep less.

B. In fact, students themselves should also take sleep seriously.

C. Secondly, busy parents may not remind them to go to bed at the proper(恰当的) time.

D. Then how many hours of sleep should junior high school students get a night?
