    Fred, a young man of twenty-five, was a clever boy. He worked in a factory after he finished high school six years ago. At first, he spent much time in studying all the machines(机械) in the factory and learned to repair them. His boss(老板) Mr. Dick liked the clever young man and paid him more than any other worker.
    Another four years later, the young man got into the habit of drinking and was often drunk. He couldn't go to work on time and didn't work so hard as before.
