There once was a king who offered a prize to the artist who painted the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The king looked at all the pictures. But there were only two he really liked, and he had to choose them. One picture was a quiet lake. The lake was a perfect mirror (镜子) for peaceful high mountains all around it. Overhead was a blue sky with white clouds. All who saw this picture that it was a perfect picture of peace.
The other picture had, too. But these were rocky. Above was an angry sky, rain fell from it and lightning played in it. Down the side of the mountains fell a waterfall. This did not look at all.
But when the king looked , he saw behind the waterfall a small bush(灌木) in a crack(裂缝) in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built. nest(巢). There sat the mother bird in her nest—in perfect peace.

peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, , or hard work, "explained the king. " Peace means to be the middle of all those noisy things and still be peaceful in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace.
