The Civil Code is a designed to cover individual rights. Through the code, China hopes to build a country under the rule of law.
China's first civil code came after years of hard work. In 1954, 1962, 1979 and 2001, China made separate attempts to draft a civil code. Since 2015 China has been working on the present draft. The adoption of the Civil Code represents a milestone for the protection of human rights and the development of rule of law in China.
