When an astronaut gets out of a spaceship or a space station in space, we call it a spacewalk.

Alexei Leonov from Russia became the first to go on a spacewalk on March 18, 1965. Zhai Zhigang is the first Chinese spacewalker, and he did a spacewalk on September 27, 2008. On November 7, 2021, he went on a spacewalk again with another Chinese woman astronaut Wang Yaping. They stayed outside Tiangong space station for 6.5 hours.

Why do astronauts go on spacewalks? That's because they need to work outside the spaceship or the space station, for example, doing science experiments. Sometimes they have to repair things. When there is something wrong with the outside of the spaceship or the space station, astronauts need to go on spacewalks to repair it.

There are some ways for astronauts to train for spacewalks. One is by going for a swim. Floating (漂浮) in space is a lot like floating in water.

It's more difficult than moving your body on land. Another way that astronauts train for spacewalks is by using virtual reality (VR). They wear a helmet (头盔) with a video screen inside. The screen can show a video of what they will see during the spacewalk. At the same time, they wear special gloves so that they can feel like they have been in the spacewalk.
