Sometimes winter is dangerous. Do you know why? Then some accidents happen so easily. Fog might be waiting to meet you over the top of a hill. Ice ahead (在前面) might be hiding under the melting (正在融化的) snow, waiting to send you off the road.

Rule Number One for driving on icy roads is to drive smoothly (平稳地). Sudden movements can make a car very difficult to control. So every time you turn the wheel, touch the brake (刹车) or increase your speed, you must be as smooth and slow as possible. Drive carefully and make sure that the cup wouldn't fall.

The more ice there is, the further down the road you have to look. Test how long it takes to stop by smoothly braking.

Remember that you may be driving more quickly than you think. So keep enough distance (距离) when the road is wet. You can keep even more space when you are on ice. Try to stay in control of your car at all times and you will get away from trouble.

A. Keep three times this distance on a snowy day.

B. Rule Number Two is to be careful about what might happen.

C. That's because it's difficult to know what is going to happen.

D. Imagine you are driving with a full cup of hot coffee on the seat next to you.

E. The car coming towards you may suddenly go across the road.
