On August 5th, 14-year-old Quan Hongchan won the gold medal in the women's 10-metre platform diving(跳台跳水) at the Tokyo Olympics. Soon, the girl's name appeared in many newspapers, magazines and on TV shows.
Quan's success surprised lots of people. "Quan Hongchan really did a good job. I seemed to see myself in her, but she did better than I did then. I really hope I can have the sametalentas her," Guo Jingjing, another famous diver, said.
Quan comes from a poor family in Guangdong. She has an elder brother, an elder sister, a younger brother and a younger sister. Her father is a farmer. Her mother is in poor health after a car accident in 2017, and it made their life much harder. At that time, Quan learned to dive for only three years.
Chen Huaming is Quan's coach (教练) . He was sure that Quan could be an excellent diver when he first saw her in 2014. He said that Quan was the one who practiced hardest. To improve her family's life and make her dream come true, Quan worked hard every day. In 2018, Quan joined the Guangdong diving team and she took every competition seriously. In 2020, she joined the national team. In the same year, she got the chance to take part in the Tokyo Olympics.
