Aminah was sad every day. Her mother had run off with a man she met at her workplace last year. Her father was depressed (沮丧的). He nearly broke down. Many a night he would come back crying out, "Why, why did she leave me?" So depressed was he that he lost himself in wine and Aminah often became the unfortunate victim (受害者) of his anger and depression. While at school, her classmates often made fun of her failing grades.
One day, her patience ran out, and she decided to leave home. "Where?" she wondered. She did not know. All she knew was that she had to get away from it all: a horrible father and school. Packing some necessary items and a few precious personal belongings, she ran away. She would leave her future to the gods.
There was confusion (困惑), uncertainty, and suffering. In her heart, she knew that running away would not solve her problems, but she had to do something. That night she walked aimlessly alone down a street away from her home, feeling a little comfort from the freedom she finally gained and being away from those mean eyes around her.
The night seemed to pass very slowly. Feeling tired and hungry, Aminah laid herself down on a chair at a bus stop beside the street. Curiously enough, staring at the stars twinkling in the sky, Aminah couldn't help thinking of her father - the heartbroken man and the only breadwinner of the family. "What is the poor man doing now? Does my running away secretly result in his deeper sorrow or worry?" she wondered. She was at a loss what to do when a policeman spotted her and asked about her condition.
