Language Days at the United Nations seek (promote) multilingualism(多语言) and cultural diversity as well as increasing equal use of all six official languages throughout the Organization.
The date for the Chinese day was selected from Guyu, which is the (six) of 24 solar terms(二十四节气) in the traditional East Asian calendars. In the Gregorian calendar(公历), it (usual) begins around April 20.
Chinese was established as an official language of the United Nations in 1946. However, in early (year), Chinese was not commonly used in the work of the United Nations. situation was improved after the People's Republic of China regained the lawful rights(权利) in the United Nations in 1971. In (celebrate) of United Nations Chinese Language Day 2021,UNSRC Chinese Book Club is organizing three events under the theme "Highlighting Pictographs(象形文字)". The three events focus three types of pictographs (associate) with three cultures and three UNESCO World Heritage sites. All three events will be conducted live.
