Jim is taking a big basket of fruit to his grandmother. The basket is full and heavy. So his little brother Tom goes with him to carry(搬运) it. They use a pole (杆) to carry the basket. They each hold one end (一端) of the pole. In this way, they can carry the basket very nicely. 

After a while, Jim starts to think, "My little brother does not know about these of the use of the pole. If the basket is in the middle of the pole, it will be as heavy for me as it is for him. But if slid (滑动) the basket near him,     ★        "

Thinking of this,he smiles.

"But I'll never do that. It would be wrong, and I will not do what the wrong thing. "Then he slides the basket quite near his own end of the pole. He feels his end of the pole is much heavier than before. He is very happy because he knows he is doing the right thing
