Where do you usually use the mobile phone, at home, on the bus, or in the street while walking? Anyway, schools are certainly no longer a place to use it.

Recently, a rule on mobile phone use was passed in China. According to it, students had better not bring mobile phones to school. If they want, they need to get their parents' and school's permission (允许) . What's more, all phones must be kept by teachers during class time.

It's said that the main purpose of the rule is to protect students' eyesight (视力) and prevent them from getting lost in the Internet and video games.

In 2019, China had 175 million Internet users under the age of 18, with 74% having their own mobile phones, according to a report last year. The report found mobile phone users in this group used their phones mostly for online learning, listening to music and playing games.

It's reported that teachers mustn't ask students to finish homework on mobile phones. Schools should provide more public phones to help students get in touch with their parents.

Parents and teachers widely support the rule. In a survey on Weibo, 54% of 1,900 people said they believed it wasn't necessary for school children to take mobile phones to schools. Over a quarter wanted a more flexible (灵活的) rule, with 20% saying students needed mobile phones at school.
