There is a famous man named Gongming Yi. He is good at playing the guqin.

On a sunny day, he goes out for a walk with his guqin. He sees a cow (牛) eating grass in the fields (田野). He sits down and plays the guqin in front of the cow. The music is beautiful, but the cow doesn't show any interest.

"Perhaps (可能) the cow doesn't like this piece," he thinks.

He begins to play the second song. Still, the cow shows no interest. Song after song, the cow just keeps eating grass.

"Why doesn't the cow listen to the music? Are my songs bad?" he asks himself. He plays a new piece of music. It is like the sound of a calf (牛犊). This time, the cow stops eating and listens to the music.

"It isn't because my music is bad. It is because the cow cannot understand music at all!" he says.
