Andy just moved to a big city to start a new job. He had never lived in a big city before. Soon the stress(压力) of city life made Andy unhappy. The people, the noise, his heavy work…it all weighed on him until he wanted to give up. He found no pleasure in anything—life just hurt.
But one day, on his way to work, Andy saw a homeless man on the street. He had never seen a homeless person before. He stopped and had a short chat with him. Suddenly, he talked about his life and complained(抱怨) about the problems he was facing. The man patiently listened the whole time. Then Andy asked him a question.
"I hope I won't offend you, but I was wondering…how did you become homeless?" Andy asked.
"I was in a war. I saw many of my friends die. I was badly hurt and couldn't find a job when I came home. My wife left me. I lost everything. Life hurt so much." the man said. "But I'm thankful that I'm still living in this beautiful world. My life might be hard sometimes, but when I see something as simple as a sunrise, I remember that even when life hurts, it is worth(值得)living."
Andy came to his senses. Compared to losing one's friends in a war and getting hurt, his own problems seemed less difficult. If this man could still see the bright side of life, then maybe he could, too.
