"OK,everybody.Its that time of year again,"said my science teacher,Mr.Beal."This Friday we'll have the annual Egg Drop Challenge."The goal is simple —you create a container to keep an egg from breaking when dropping it.
My friend,Cassie,and I flashed each other a smile.We always worked on projects together and did well.When I was making my favorite sandwich that afternoon,spreading the marshmallow(棉花糖) cream gave me an idea."I have a brilliant design!"I said when Cassie arrived."What?"she asked eagerly.
"We can protect the egg with marshmallow cream.You know,to absorb shock on impact,"I explained. "You've got to be kidding,Laura.""You have a better idea?"Cassie pointed to a picture in her notebook. Friday rolling around,I had to admit Cassie's "Egg Force One"looked pretty good.She'd used paper to create a small parachute tied to the basket that held her egg.My "Egg-cellent Eigg Cream"didn't look so scientific.Id lined the sides and bottom of a box with rice cakes.Then I'd added a layer of marshmallow cream,the egg,and a layer of jelly.
This is how the competition worked out:All students in my class carried their egg containers up three steps in the stadium and dropped it over the side wall.If the egg survived,you walked up three more steps and dropped it again.This went on until the last egg survived.By the fourth drop,only Cassie's egg and mine were left."OK,"Mr.Beal announced."Let's go on the count of three."
