Severn Suzuki is the daughter of the famous environmental scientist David Suzuki. But the Canadian woman has become an environmentalist herself.

In 1992, the first U.N. Earth Summit(地球峰会) was held in Rio de Janeiro. Thousands of delegates(代表) from around the world gathered to talk about the Earth future. Twelve-year-old Severn Suzuki and three of her friends formed a group. They raised money to travel from Canada to Rio to attend the summit.

At the summit, Suzuki talked about her fears over the state of the Earth's environment. "You don't know how to fix the holes in our ozone layer(臭氧层). You don't know how to bring back an extinct(灭绝的) animal. You don't know how to bring back forests that once grew in places that are now deserts. If you don't know how to fix the Earth, please stop breaking it!" The six-minute speech silenced everyone present.

After the speech, Suzuki began to lead "two lives". On schooldays, she was a common student. But during her vacations, she spoke internationally about the environment.

Now, 30 years have passed since Suzuki gave her Rio speech. Sadly, many of the world's environmental problems have only become worse. But Suzuki admits(承认) that some things are different now. For example, more and more people have become aware of the importance of environmental protection.

Suzuki, now a mother of two, has continued raising people's awareness of climate change. "Thirty years ago, I was fighting for my own future. Now, I am fighting for the future of my sons," she says. "My viewpoint may have changed, but my message remains the same."
