The "water footprint" is a way to show how much fresh water a certain activity or process uses. Growing crops (need) a lot of water, so the water footprint of food is big. And animal products, like meat, milk and (egg), use even more water. The food we eat makes up the biggest part of our personal water footprint. That's it's important not to waste food. When we throw away food, we're not only wasting the food itself, but also the water it took to make it.
