In a classroom in Dingyuan County, Anhui Province, an old man is speaking (loud) to the students. is he? He is 95-year-old Yan Mingyou and he is music teacher.
In 1952, Yan left the army(退伍) and returned to his hometown. He gave up the good job in the city and chose(选择) to work in rural(乡村的) schools. There he tạught different (subject) like music and Chinese. In 1990, Yan retired(退休) nearly 40 years of hard work of teaching. He should have enjoyed his later life, he knew that most rural schools didn't have full-time music teachers. So he began to give music lessons to students in different schools, and has been teaching there since then.
Yan is good at (play) all kinds of musical instruments(乐器 ). When he was in his 70s, he spent three years taking piano classes. He also used his own money (buy) musical instruments and help left-behind(留守的) children at rural schools.
"It is (interest) to stay with the kids. For(they), music is not only a song, but also a way to show their feelings and build up their confidence. And it may finally help them find their dreams." Yan said.
