Honeybees are great dancers,but they don't just do it for fun.Scientists have long known that honeybees wiggle their bodies.It is their way of sharing information.

When a bee starts dancing, it steps forward. At the same time,it wiggles side to side.It keeps doing this while it moves around. They dance just like number eight and scientists call this the "waggle dance".It helps other bees find food. The bee's position tells them which way to fly. The more a bee wiggles, the farther away the food is.The longer it repeats these moves, the tastier the food is.

Now a new study shows that honeybees don't have these dance skills at birth. Young bees learn them by watching the older bees. In March 2023scientists from the University of California,San Diego,published(v.发表)these findings in a scientific magazine.

The study finds that bees can learn by imitating each other. This is called "social learning". Many animals learn in this way, like monkeys and birds, but most of these animals have bigger brains(n.大脑). Bees have much smaller brains.

To know how bees learn the waggle dance, scientists recorded videos of honeybees in a lab. They compared two groups of young bees which were 10 days old.In the first group, young bees could watch older ones dance.In the second group,young bees could not watch older dancers. They found that the ones in Group 1 were better dancers while the ones in Group 2 were not good at the waggle dance.

When you get on the bus, do you ever smile at the driver?Perhaps few of us do.But according to a new study in London, this simple act can(increase) the driver's happiness. The researchers hope that the findings will lead to "more friendliness on buses."

It is hard (believe) that a study on London's buses could change behavior worldwide. However, this has happened before.In the history of medical science, London's double-deckers once played  important role.Every time you go for a run or check your step count, you are actually "following the path"of the conductors on these buses.

In the 1940s, doctors were worried. Many rich countries were suffering from an"epidemic(疾病大流行)"of heart disease. No one knew why. that time, people didn't think that health and exercise were linked. Some even(feel) that too much physical activity was a bad thing. After all, soldiers and farmers had to do a lot of "exercise" everyday.,they suffered from various diseases. Some of(they) died young.

Then, Jerry Morris, a young doctor, focused on the medicalrecords of 31,000 London transportation workers.The findings were (surprise).Conductors who ran up and down stairs all day were about 30 percent less likely to get heart disease than drivers who sat all day. Exercise was keeping people (health). Morris also looked at other jobs. Similarly, postmen were much less likely to suffer from the disease than operators.

Morris's research was published in 1953. More and more people around the world then took up (run).

Do you think more people will now smile at the driver when they get on the bus?

任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题1分,共计5分)
 请仔细阅读下面短文,在空白处填入与短文内容相符的信息,完成阅读摘记。(每空不多于三个词)

In many countries,you can only get proper full-time job if you are 16 or 18 yearsold. But there are things that teenagers insome places can do to earn some pocket money.Here are a few ideas.

Parents who have a small child want to go out for the evening for dinneror to the cinema, but they don't want to leave their children alone. So,they ask a teenager to stay in the house and look after him or her while they are out. And if the child's asleep, you can do your homework and not waste time.

Some adults have a dog but they don't have time to take it for a walk. Dogs need a lot of exercise! So some teenagers can be dogwalkers. It's a good idea to earn money and you get some exercise in the fresh air at the same time.

Teenagers can deliver newspapers.Usually you ride a bike around a neighborhood and leave the newspaper at each house. Normally you have to have your own bikeand you have to get up early, too, because people want their newspaper to read when they are having breakfast.

Lots of older people are happy for teenagers to help them carry their shopping or do small things in their homes, like washing or ironing or staying with them. You earn money, and people in the neighborhood get your help.

It's crazy for adults to drive to an expensive car wash when they can get a teenager to do the job for less money. Wash the car well and carefully and people will want you to do it again. Then you've got customers!

But don't forget it's important always to tell an adult where you're going. Be safe! Don't be stupid!

Teenagers:
