As an English child, I started school when I was five. I studied at this school when I was eleven and I will leave next year when I am 16. So I will spend 5 years at this school.

The school year starts in September and ends in July. I have two weeks holiday in December, two weeks in April and six weeks in July and August. I also have one week's holiday in February, June and October.

In June next year, before I leave this school, I will take exams in 10 subjects. The exams are called GCSE. All children in England have to study English, mathematics, science and a foreign language. They can also choose some other subjects.

Here is my timetable for this year. School ends at 3:15.

Here is my diary for last week.

MondayIn English, we started reading the play called "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare — it is about a king in Scotland.

Tuesday    In geography, we are still learning about pollution. It is important but I am bored with it!

Wednesday In history, my favorite subject, we are learning about medicine in the past. Next week we are going to a museum in London to see some old medical things.

Thursday   I went to the cinema with Tom after school.

Friday      I walked to school with Matthew and I gave him a football for his birthday.

I walked quickly out of my church. It was late. My dad was waiting. I stared at the parking lot. Then I saw my dad's little red Honda. "Get in! Get in! Why are you so late all the time?"

The ride home was not much more than five minutes but each minute moved slowly. We were stuck behind an old man. He wasn't going more than 15 kilometers an hour. My dad started to shout, "Learn how to drive, Grandpa!" He hit thesteering wheel(方向盘)with his hands. He was really angry.

"Dad, stop it. Why do you always…?" He cut me off, "I'd not get stuck at the light without this fellow!" The old man got to the light just as it was changing. "You're free! Drive away quickly," I thought. I looked over my dad. "Can you believe that, Steph? I get stuck at every light. There are so many stupid drivers out there, he said angrily.

Who gives him the right to shout at someone? Anger built inside me. "What if I shouted at my friends when they asked me for help?" I said. I looked out of the window, trying to catch my breath.

"You know, Steph, I think you are going to be apsychologist(心理学家)," he said. I remembered the last time I tried to say something, he hadfumed, "Don't tell me how to drive! If I want your opinion, I'll ask for it! Think about what you say before you talk."

Usually, he'd be angry that I would doubt hisauthority (权威), but this time, he accept what I had said. A sense of pride rose up in me. It had been a short drive, but it had been the best car ride of my life.

As a child, I was really afraid of the dark and of getting lost .These fears were very real and caused me some uncomfortable moments.

Maybe it was the strange way things looked and sounded in my own room at night that scared me so much. There was never complete darkness, but always a streetlight or passing car lights ,which made clothes on the back of a chair take on the shape of a wild animal .Out of the corner of my eye I saw the curtains (帘) seem to move when there was no wind A very low sound in the floor would seem a hundred times louder than in the day . My imagination wound run wild, and my heart would beat fast. I would lie very still so that the "enemy" would not discover me.

Another of my childhood fears was that I would get lost, especially on the way home from school .Every morning I got on the school bus right near my home That was no problem After school, though when all the buses were lined up along the street I was afraid that I would get in the wrong one and be taken to some other strange places .On school or family trips to a park or a museum I would not let the leaders out of my sight.

Perhaps one of the worst fears of all I had as a child was that of not being liked or accepted by others .Being popular was so important to me then and the fear of not being liked was a serious one.

One of the processes (过程) growing up is being able to realize  and overcome our fears Understanding the things that scared us as children helps us achieve greater success later in life.

任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
下面文章中有5处需添加小标题。请从A、B、C、D、E和F中选出符合各段意思的小标题。选项中有一项是多余选项。

A. What if you win.

B. Life won't be the same without you.

C. Life isn't no crystal stair.

D. There is a rainbow after every storm.

E. Focus on the future.

F. To give up is to live a meaningless life

The life has been full of challenges and difficulties. Life is not about the smartest person or the strongest person, or even the richest person. However, Life is about having the mind in your heart “Never Give Up”, even when you feel that giving up is the only choice. The world is waiting on your gifts.

You are important to this world and believe it or not, someone is waiting for you to enrich their lives. You are too important to the world to just give up.

You may feel that life is challenging you from time to time and you can't take it anymore. You may want to give up right now. But here is a thought, what will happen if you overcome the difficulties?

When an Olympic runner is in a race, he or she is focusing on one thing—the finishing line. You have to focus on the big picture—not just where you are right now. Focus in where you want to be. Make an agreement with your mind and your mouth.

One of my favorite poems is called “Crystal Stair ” written by Langston Hughes. In that poem, a mother tells her son that life is tough, you will meet rocks and hard places, but the end is victory to those who stand their ground and ride the course.

Whatever you are facing, you can make it through. There is a rainbow on the other side of your situation. Stay strong, stay focused and never give up.

During the course of our run, I looked at him, with blood still flowing from his nose and his 14slowing him down. It hurt me that here was a person, not all that different from myself. I no longer saw Matt as fat. It was amazing what I learned I was forced to go hand-in-hand with someone for only one mile.

For the rest of my life I have never 15 a hand against another person. I know it is wrong to do so.
