16-year-old Mike was told he was going to the Mashan School in Guizhou. He tried to imagine how serious the drought(旱灾)was for the students at that school. However, he realized it was more serious than he had imagined when he saw the sign" DON " T wash clothes with water, or you will be punished."

Because of drought, the school has been short of water for a long time. Each student has only one bottle of water every day for washing and drinking. The drought has made e poor students much poorer.

Mike is a student from Beijing Chaoyang Foreign Language School He took part in the school's Rain & Bow Project from April 2 to 10.

The project idea came from Mike's principal(负责人). One day, the heard a sad story about. Li Guoxian, a pour girl in the Mashan School, who stopped going to school because of drought. The principal started this project to help the school. In one day, 3,000 students made over 10.000 donations of water, books and clothes.

Mike and other four students went to the Mashan School and gave the donations with five teachers. They visited poor families, made surveys and had classes at the school.

Mike also found the school's learning environment quite poor." The blackboards and playground are too shabby to use," he said "Besides, there really aren't enough teaches. A teacher has to teach both history and English, and even the cook is a class teacher.”

Although life isn't easy, students at the school have a positive attitude(积极的态度)towards life and they are quite willing to learn. That's what moved 16-year-old Chen Shi most.

“They sang their songs together as usual before class every afternoon. After class, the students asked us to tell them things about Beijing and our studies, "Chen Shi said, "You can see the passion(热情)in them. I believe it will make a difference. Their futures will be bright. "

Robots come in many shapes and sizes. But most have one thing in common. They are built to help people, Lately engineers have been developing new kinds of robots. These high-tech machines are designed to lend a hand everywhere from hotels to disaster areas.

"Robots help people by making their lives easier, safer, and more fun, "says engineer Omar.

Since November, a robot named Pepper has been on the job at Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. When guests have questions or need directions, they can ask Pepper. They can also use the robot's touch screen to find the information they need. Pepper is able to talk with guests and make them happy with stories too. It can even tell what kind of mood they are in.

"Pepper provides our guests with information in an exciting and new way." says the hotel manager Donald Bowman.

The digital(数字的)age has come into our life. In the USA, some teachers think digital search tools(工具)have had a good influence on the American teenagers, but others don't think so. More than 2,000 high school teachers took s survey on the Internet.

75 percent of the teachers agreed the Internet and digital search tools have had a "mostly good" use for their students' research habits and skills. But 87 percent thought that these technologies" make the students not have enough attention." And 64 percent said the technologies "do little to help them in courses."

Judy Buchanan is a director of the National Writing Project. Ms. Buchanan says digital search tools are helping students learn more, and lean faster. Teachers really like these tools because they are ways to make some of learning very exciting. Young people enjoy using these tools. And the goal is to help them do creative work, and not just that kind of copyist(模仿者,抄写员).

But one problem is that many students don't have a good understanding of how to use the digital knowledge well. In other words, they trust too much of the information. Judy Buchanan says these students have not developed the skills they need to tell whether the information on the Internet is good or bad.

Another problem is something that might not seem like a problem at all, being able to quickly find information from the Internet. Teachers say the ability of their students to work hard to find out answers is becoming weaker. They say students depend too much on search tools and do not make enough use of printed books.
