On Sunday 23 April, more than 30,000 people joined in the 2017 London Marathon, running 26.2 miles around the city center.

The London Marathon has taken place every year since 1981.At the first one, just 6,225 people completed the course, and since then it has grown into one of the most important sporting events in the world. Each winner receives $500,000 in prize money.

However, most marathon runners are not professional(专业的).They run to raise money for charities or just as a personal experience. Many people do fun things to make themselves stand out, like wear silly clothes or do things instead of just running.

For example, Tom Harrison took three days just to reach the halfway point, as he wascrawlingon his hands and knees dressed as a gorilla(猩猩),trying to raise money and attention for 'The Gorilla Organization '.

One exciting part from this year's race was the story of Jackie and her husband, who got married on the morning of the marathon. Then they both ran the race, with Jackie doing it in her wedding dress! They were running to raise money for cancer charities, as Jackie was diagnosed(诊断)with cancer three years ago.

Matthew Rees was another runner to inspire(激励)people, as he stopped just before the finish line to help another runner run the last 200m.They did not know each other before, but Matthew saw that David was too tired to finish the race and wanted to help him finish.

Every year there are lots of inspiring stories like this from the London Marathon, and it is a huge achievement even to run the 26.2 miles !

Think of a simple object—a piece of chalk, for example. Are you remembering its name, its shape, its color or its size? Are you remembering what it is used for,or the sound it makes when the teacher writes on the blackboard? Scientists say that memory includes different parts of the brain, such as language and the ability of sense. They believe that you begin to create a memory when you notice something with your senses. Then, messages are sent to different brain cells, which join together to form connections.A new connection goes into your short—term memory. It is stored there for about 30 seconds, and then it is either lost or stored in your long—term memory.

Having a good memory means making lots of connections and storing them in your long—term memory. To do this, you need to keep your brain in good shape.Eat plenty of brain food such as fish oil, fruit and vegetables.Laughter also makes your brain more active. Also, don't forget to exercise. So do some sports or just move around a lot in the house. Finally, get plenty of sleep. This will make your memories grow stronger.

When you want to remember new information, you must pay special attention.Use your senses—sight, smell, hearing and touch—and keep repeating the information. To do well in your exams this year, turn off the TV,silence your mobile, and review your work regularly. To remember something special, use your imagination to create visual(视觉的)connections. For example, you need to take a pencil,an eraser, your ID card and chips to your next exam. Imagine the ID card as the body of an animal, the pencil its long neck, and the eraser its head.Your animal is hungry,so now imagine it eating a bag of chips. It may sound crazy, but its fun and it works.Another way is to do something different to your room.Turn a picture upside-down,or tie a sock around the door handle to remind(提醒) yourself of something to remember!

My best friend Jenny and I got to the mall for shopping. She held up a white sweater and matching skirt.“Do you like this?”she asked.

“It's great,''I said.Jenny nodded and continued looking while I moved about.touching the beautiful clothes.“ I'll try this on.”Jenny walked towards the dressing room. After a while, she came out in the outfit(一套衣服).She looked beautiful.

I sighed. Part of me wanted to say how good she looked, but another part stopped the words coming out.Jenny was in such good shape that she'd look good in the outfit.Sometimes, I regretted choosing a best friend who was so pretty.God,why can't I be the one with the rich parents and the great look?More and more, I was envious(妒忌的)of her.

“Well,Teresa, what do you think?”Jenny asked more than once.“Do you like it?''

The outfit looked great on her,but I lied,“Not really.I think you need something with more colors.''

    “You think so?"Jenny said doubtfully.

“Just believe me.We'll find something better,"I told her, pushing her back into the dressing room.“You just can't buy the first thing you see.”I did my best to get Jenny out of the store, away from that outfit. As we left,Jenny gave the sweater one last look.

Just down the mall,we passed a yogurt place."My treat,''Jenny said, pulling out her wallet.

I could never say no to chocolate,so we got some and sat down at a table. As Jenny talked without stopping about a million things,I thought about my feelings toward her. Those feelings weren't kind.

Sitting there,  ▲ Jenny was attractive(吸引人的)not just because of her good luck, but more because of her kindness.Treating me to chocolate was far from her only show of generosity. She also let me drive her car and borrow her colothes.

Finishing our chocolate,we headed for the next clothing store. "Look at that red sweater.''Jenny said as we passed the window."It would be perfect for you.Soon maybe you'll have enough by saving your babysitting money to buy something like that.”

A few minutes earlier, all I had heard was about saving my babysitting money.I had hated the fact that Jenny could ask her parents for anything, and they'd buy it for her. This time, though.I heard more.I heard the voice of someone who loved and cared me for who I was.I needed to express the same to her.
