I'm a girl, Myra. Racing on the 1,500-meter track(跑道), I'm so tired. I want to stop but a voice repeating in my head, "No one knows what the result will be. Everything is still possible." Today, I have to fight with myself.

Nine years ago, when I was a 6-year-old girl, my mother took me on a trip. We went to the foot of a high mountain which she told me that we would climb. I have never done this before and the thought of it made me very happy.

At the beginning, I was so excited, and climbed fast. But half an hour later, when I was thirsty and tired, I just stopped and sat upon the ground, completely silent. My mom came and sat next to me. She said, "Get up and go on!" Crying, I almost shouted, "Never! It's too tiring and I am thirsty. I want to go back home now."

Patiently she explained, "Listen, my dear. If you try your best, anything is possible. If you don't try, your dream will never come true. You will never know how beautiful the scenery looks unless you reach the top of the mountain."

Hearing her words, I stopped crying and started to climb again. Finally I did reach the top of the mountain and enjoyed the fantastic view.

Today I'm on the racing track. I'm going to keep running because I know it's always worth. And in the end I made it; I got through the finish line. Although it was really difficult and I did not win, I did finish it. "Never stop fighting until you arrive at your destined(命定的) place—— that is, the unique you."

Taking care of pets can be a great way to teach children responsibility, but it's important to be realistic (现实的). If you're keen on bringing an animal into your home and you've designed a plan for its proper care, here are some choices.

• FISH

First-time owners should consider getting cold-water fish as no tank (鱼缸) heater is required. They should research what kinds of fish get along in the same tank, and be aware of life expectancies-some goldfish can live up to 20 years.

• RABBITS

Though rabbits, or nickname bunnies, may seem like a lovely choice, they can live up to ten years and require an amount of care similar to that of a dog or cat. They have their special diet needs, and often don't behave well around small children. Each year, quite a lot of Easter bunnies become homeless when families feel tired of them.

• GUINEAPIGS (豚鼠,荷兰猪)

These small animals are ideal starter pets. Their cages must be cleaned daily, and they require toys to keep their ever growing teeth in check. Once they're used to the new way of life, guinea pigs need daily exercise in a small room without cracks or holes for escape. They don't want to be alone, but if you get two, make sure they're the same sex or they'll have babies.

• BIRDS

Fond of a fixedtimetable, birds require feeding at the same time each day. Cages should be cleaned daily and disinfected (消毒) weekly. Birds clean themselves by bathing in dishes of water and grow in cages big enough to spread their wings and fly a short time.

Vocabulary, Complete the sentences with proper forms of the words given.

Answer the questions according to the following passage.

A novel coronavirus (新冠状病毒), a cousin of the SARS virus, has infected (感染) more than 40, 000people since the outbreak (爆发) began in Huanan Seafood Market, Wuhan, China, in December. At first, we knew little about this virus. With more researches going on, we get to learn more about it.

Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses that are common among animals. In rare cases, they are what scientists call zoonotic (人畜共患病), meaning they can be transmitted (传播) from animals to humans, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is believed that the novel coronavirus spreads from human contact with animals. Bats are widely believed to be carriers of the latest strain of the disease.

Chinese researchers said on Friday that the endangered pangolin (穿山甲) may be the intermediate (媒介) host between bats and humans.

The viruses can make people sick, usually with a mild (轻度) to moderate (中度) upper respiratory tract illness (上呼吸道疾病) , similar to a common cold, including a runny nose, cough, sore throat, possibly a headache and maybe a fever, which can last for a couple of days. For those with a weakened immune(免疫的) system, the elderly and the very young, there's a chance the virus could cause deadly diseases.

What's horrible about this virus is that once a human is infected, he/she becomes a carrier of the virus and spreads it to more people by coughing, sneezing or even handshaking. The virus can also be transmitted by touching something an infected person has touched and then touching your mouth, nose or eyes. Doctors and nurses may also catch the disease when taking care of the patients, so they are required to wear strict protective clothes.

To fight against the disease, as individuals (个人,个体) , we should strictly follow the requirements of the government to stay at home and help to prevent the spread of the disease. In terms of the (就……而言) government, a strong health care system can surely help decrease the risk of health attack and lessen the impact of the disease.
