We'll finally grow up someday, leaving our parents and facing the challenges in life. Parents may not be able to solve every problem for us. Instead, we should have enough life skills to deal with the problems that come our way.

This is what our country tries to do now: Helping more students gain working spirit. To stress (强调) the importance of hardworking spirit education (劳动教育) among students of different ages, the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council released (颁发) a guideline recently.

The guideline calls for students to respect work. Students should learn basic life skills and form good working habits through such education.

The government has been trying to stress the importance of hardworking spirit education. Butthishas been overlooked (忽视) in recent years. Many teens do not value the importance of working hard and are uninterested in doing so.

According to a study of nearly 3,000 students that was done by Ningbo Evening News in March, only 22 percent of primary and middle school students help with everyday housework around the house.

Schools and families play an important role in teaching students about the value of workin9 hard, the guideline says.

Primary and middle schools should provide students with hardworking spirit classes every week, according to the guideline. Schools can also hold activities to give students real-world work experience. For example, schools can teach children how to plant trees on Tree-Planting Day.

As children's first teachers, parents should also encourage children to learn how to do housework at home. Students should master one or two life skills every year. These skills can include cooking, washing their own clothes and tidying their rooms.

The novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) has already made a number of people sick. Where did the virus come from? Scientists say it probably came from bats.

Bats can carry and transmit (传播) more than 60 viruses that can infect (传染) humans, Live Science noted. They include the world's deadliest viruses, such as Ebola and HIV. Because of their strong immune systems (免疫系统), bats are able to host these viruses and not get sick. At the same time, the viruses keep developing inside the bats to create new variants (变体). These variants can then infect new hosts, such as other wild animals.

Pangolins (穿山甲), for example, might be an intermediate host (中间宿主) for NCP, according to a recent study by Chinese scientists. This means that bats might have given the virus to pangolins, with pangolins then spreading it to humans.

Wild animals like snakes, hedgehogs (刺猬) and bamboo rats also carry different virus. But since they live in the wild, there should be little chance for humans to come into contact with them and get infected - unless the animals are eaten or used to make animal products. When people hunt, buy and eat wild animals, they can introduce viruses to the rest of the population.

But this doesn't mean that we should kill wild animals. Each species has a role in the ecosystem (生态系统) and all of them are important in keeping a natural ecological balance. The lesson we can learn from disease outbreaks is to protect animals and to live inharmonywith them instead of hunting, killing, or eating them.

In a faraway country, there were two carpenters (木匠) who were both so good at their job that no one could tell who was better.

One day, the country's king thought of a way to figure out which one was better. He would have them compete against each other in a contest. The winner would become the official royal (皇家的) carpenter.

The king sent for the two carpenters and the contest began. The carpenters were given three days to carve (雕刻) a wooden mouse. Whoever carved the most lifelike mouse would be the winner.

The first carpenter carved a fine mouse with vivid (生动的) and lifelike feature. The second carpenter's mouse. however, looked quite rough. In fact, it hardly even looked like a mouse at all.

The king and his ministers (大臣) agreed that the first carpenter was the winner.

The second carpenter said, "This judgment is unfair. We should ask a cat which mouse looks the most realistic. Cats can recognize mice much better than humans, after all. "

The king thought this was a good idea. He ordered his ministers to catch several cats and bring them to judge (评判) the carpenters' mice. Surprisingly, all of the cats were more attracted to the second carpenter's mouse.

The king asked the second carpenter, "How did you make the cats believe that-your mouse looked more real?" The carpenter said, "Your Majesty, if you look closely, you can see that I carved a mouse holding a fishbone! The cats care not about how real it looks, but how delicious it might taste. "
