At the moment, it may be difficult to imagine, but many people believe that, by the year 2100, we will live on the planet Mars. Our own planet, Earth, is becoming more and more crowded and polluted. Luckily, we can start again and build a better world on Mars. Here is what life could be like.

First of all, transport(交通) should be much better. At present, our spaceships are too slow to carry large numbers of people to Mars—it takes a few months. However, by 2100, spaceships can travel at half the speed of light. It might take us two or three days to get to Mars!

Secondly, humans need food, water and air to live. Scientists should be able to develop plants that can be grown on Mars. These plants will produce the food and air that we need. However, can these plants produce water for us? There is no answer now.

There is a problem for us to live on Mars. Mars suck(吸引) us much less than Earth does. This will be dangerous because we could easily jump too high and fly slowly away into space. To prevent this, humans on Mars have to wear special shoes to make themselves heavier.

There will probably be no school on Mars. Every student will have a computer at home which is connected to the Internet. They can study, do their homework and take exams in online schools. Each student will also have their own online teacher called "e-teacher".

Life on Mars will be better than that on Earth in many ways. People will have more space. Living in a large building with only 10 bedrooms is highly possible. Many people believe that robots will do most of our work, so we have more time for our hobbies.

However, in some ways, life on Mars may not be better than that on Earth today. Food will not be the same—meals will probably be in the form of pills(片状物) and will not be as delicious as they are today. Also, space travel will make many people feel ill. The spaceship will travel fast but the journey to Mars will probably be very uncomfortable.

When he was 9 years old, Felix Finkbeiner was asked to give a speech in class on climate(气候) change. The young German spoke about depredation(砍伐森林) and its influences on the planet. At the end of his talk, he called on the people of his county to help by planting one milling trees. __________________. Before he was 20, however, Finkbeiner's hard work had resulted in the planting of more than 14,00000, 000 trees around the world.

Finkbeiner and his classmates began the project - named "Plant – for – the - Planet" –by planting the first tree outside their school. Other schools followed the example, and news of the one-million project began to spread. As a result, Finkbeiner was even given an invitation to speak at the European Parliament. Other invitations soon followed, and when he was just 13, he spoke at a United Nations conference in New York. "We don't think that adults(成年人) alone will save our future," he said in the speech. "We have to take our future in our own hands."

Finkbeiner is now in his twenties, and Plant-for-the- Planet has grown to be an organization with around 70,000 members. It works to teach people about climate change and tochallengethem to plant more trees. Germany's one millionth tree was planted long ago. The goal now is to plant 1,000,000,000,000 trees - about 150 for every person on Earth.

Finkbeiner continues to give talks on climate change to world leaders. "I don't think we can give up on this generation(一代人) of adults," he says, "and wait 20 or 30 years for our generation to come to power. We don't have that time. All we can do is push present world leaders in the right direction."

Albert Einstein is right once again! He thought of the idea about gravitational waves years ago with his Theory of Relativity, but scientists are finally discovering that it really exists now. But what are gravitational waves, and why are they important?

Well, gravitational waves are made by black holes and can change time in space. Black holes aren't holes but are lots of matter put together into a very small area. They are created when a star, much like our sun, explodes and leaves behind this dense* material. It doesn't shine like a star any more, and it becomes black.

The black holes that made these waves are special. About 1.3 billion years ago, there were two black holes that kept moving closer and closer together. Finally, they hit each other and formed one big black hole. The energy is given off and created the ripples* in space. These ripples are gravitational waves. For example, imagine you throw a stone into a pool. It creates ripples that change the shape of the water. Well, that's kind of what the influence of one black hole hitting the other has in space.

Gravitational waves are hard to explore. But thanks to the efforts of scientists, the ripples were discovered on Feb. 11th, which is the first time in human history. Einstein was excellent to know this 100 years ago before we have the technology. It can give us a new view of the universe we live in. The discovery of gravitational waves, unlike stars, galaxies and other bright objects, black holes don't produce light, so we can't see them by tools. Gravitational waves allow scientists to look at the universe not only with light, but also with gravity. "Everything else in astronomy like the eye," A scientist told The New York Times. "Finally, astronomy grew ears. We had never ears before."

Now, we will be able to find black holes and things that are much further away from Earth, which means much more space exploration in the future. And who knows, this discovery could even lead to time travel!

Is there a connection between music and language?According to recent studies, the answer is yes: Here, we look at two examples.

A recent study by researcher Kraus shows that playing a musical instrument can improve a person's hearing ability. The people in the first group were musicians, while those in the second group had no musical training. The musicians were able to hear the talking person more clearly.

Think about violinists in an orchestra(管弦乐队). When the violinists play with the group, they hear their own instrument and many others, too. But the violinists must listen closely to what they are playing, and pay no attention to the other sounds. In this way, musicians are able to focus on certain sounds, even in a room with lots of noise.

Schlaug, a doctor at Harvard Medical School, works with stroke(中风) patients. Because of their illness, these people cannot say their names, addresses, or other information normally. However, they can still sing. Why does this work?Schlaug isn't sure. Music seems to make different parts of the brain work, including the damaged(损坏的) parts. This might help patients use that part of the brain again.

Music improves concentration(注意力), memory, listening skills, and our overall language abilities. Playing an instrument or singing can help us do better in school and keep our brain sharp(敏锐的) as we get older. Music is not only enjoyable but also good for us in many other ways.

A. It can even help sick people get better.

B. Music helps people solve some hearing problems.

C. Music improves certain language abilities in the brain.

D. The violinists develop their memories by playing the violin.

E. Musicians hear better because they learn to pay attention to certain sounds.

F. Schlaug was surprised to find that singing words helped his patients to speak.

G. In his study two groups of people listened to a person talking in a noisy room.
