I was on a train in Switzerland. The train came to a stop and the conductor s voice sent a1in German, Italian, and French. However, I'd made the mistake of not learning any of the languages2my vacation. So l just sat there.

However, everyone started getting off the train. An old woman saw that I was3and nervous. She could speak some English and told me that an accident had happened on the tracks. As a result, we must go then. She asked me where I was trying to get to, then went and talked to some workers and came back to tell me that we'd have to hop4three or four times to get there.

I was really glad she was going the5way. Because it would have been6for me to figure it out without her help. So we went together from one train station to the next, getting to know each other along the way.

She was really the7person. It was a 2.5-hour journey in total, and when we made it to the final destination, we got off and said our8. I had made it just in time to catch my train to Rome. She told me she had a train to catch as well. I asked her how much farther she had to go and it turned out that her home was two hours back the other way.

I looked at her9. A woman spent her whole day sitting on trains and getting away from her home just to help out a confused tourist!

That experience is unforgettable.10I have visited many countries, I'll always say the most beautiful country in the world is Switzerland.

One day a professor entered her classroom and told her students about a test. The students took their seats and waited for the test to begin. The professor put a test paper on each student's desk with the text facing down. She then said they can turn the paper over and begin.

The students didn't expect to see no questions, but just a single black dot in the center of the paper. The professor said, "I just want you to write down what you see on this paper."

The students did as they were told. At the end of class, the professor took their tests and started reading their answers aloud. Each student tried to describe the black dot - its size, its position on the paper. After the professor finished reading, the class was silent.

She started to explain. "Don't worry. There is no right answer to this test. But I want you to think about something." Imagine that this paper represents your life. The white area represents all of your life experiences - the black dot just stands for the bad things you've gone through. Life gives us many things - loved ones, enjoyable moments, and even miracles (奇迹) from time to time. And yet our eves are always captured by the black dot in our life. Our problems and difficulties can beat us.

"From now on, I want you to think about the big picture more often. Don't just focus on the black dots in your life. Remind yourself how lucky you are sometimes." Hearing this, the students finally understood the aim of this test. They kept looking at the paper for a long time.

Giving back to your community is never easy, and this is particularly true when you are living in a foreign country. There has been a lack of volunteer programs in Shenzhen, particularly for foreigners. That is why Bruno Schuyten started the H.O.P.E program with the Shenzhen local organizations together, which stands for "Help One Person Everyday". It is a great way to help others and make new friends. The program aims to give back to the local community, set up businesses, as well as building a stronger connection between locals and foreigners living in Shenzhen.

The program has three weekly events, which includes English classes on Mondays and Tuesdays from 12:45 to 13:45, a Chinese corner on Tuesday evenings from 19:00 to 20:00 and a cultural exchange on Fridays from 12:45 to 13:45. The program also has special events every Saturday, the last of which included a cleanup of Nanshan mountain on July 13th.

Future events that are planned include meeting with local service centers for discussions, an introduction to all natural solutions do- it-yourself, and going to local hospitals to volunteer. The program will also be offering free translations for community service centers involved with foreigners, opportunities for foreigners to share stories and information about their home countries with locals. In order to help you recover from all of that hard work, tea, coffee and beer brewing (酿造) classes are planned as well.

If you have volunteering ideas of your own about how to make our shared community better, or just want to get involved, you can follow the H.OP.E programs official WeChat account (账号). Come and join us!
