I used to hate being called upon in class mainly because I didn't like others to notice me. And1the teacher assigned (指定) me a seat, I always chose to sit at the back of the classroom.

All this 2after I joined a sports team. It began when a teacher3I should try out for the basketball team. At first I thought it was a crazy4. Because I didn't have a good sense of balance, and I didn't have the 5to keep up with the others on the team and they would laugh at me. But because the teacher kept 6 my" going for it", I decided to give a try.

Getting up the courage to go to tryouts was only the half of it! When I first started 7 the practice courses, I didn't even know the rules of the game. Sometimes I took a shot at the 8direction — which made me feel really stupid and I'd get confused (迷惑的). 9, I wasn't the only one "new" at the game. So I decided to focus on learning the game, do my best at each practice session.

I practised and practised. Soon I 10 the rules and the moves. Being part of a team was fun and easy. Very soon, I got confidence from11several competitive matches. With time, I learned how to play and made friends—friends who respected my12to work hard and be a team player. I never had so much fun!

With more self-confidence comes more praise from teachers and classmates. I have gone from "13" in the back of the classroom and not wanting to draw attention, 14raising my hand—even when I sometimes wasn't and not 100 percent 15I had the right answer. Now I have more self-confidence in myself.

Before we upload a photo of ourselves to social media, like WeChat, we'll use an app to smooth our skin, make our eyes look bigger, and give us longer eyelashes and fuller lips. With a couple of touches on our mobile phone, we're able to present the best pictures of ourselves to others.

However, the problem is, when we simply edit our imperfections(瑕疵) away, we're also changing the way we look at our ourselves.     1

Last month, researchers from the US Boston University published an article SelfiesLiving in the Era of Filtered (滤镜) Photographs. The article listed the bad effects of photo editing on people and the possibility to cause appearance worries.    2

The researchers think that these apps make it difficult to tell between reality and fantasy(虚幻). "These apps allow one to change his or her appearance in minutes and follow an unrealistic standard of beauty," the article says.    3

In the past, people might compare their looks to those who were famous that time. But for today's young people, beauty standards are most likely set by what they see on social media. "From birth, they are born into an age of social platforms, and their feelings are connected to how good they look, " a British doctor Escho said.   4    "Now you've got the comparison of your real self to fake self that you present on social media," Renee Engeln, a professor at Northwestern University, told the Huff Post website. He further pointed out that when people spend too much time comparing with others, they may become "beauty sick" and find it difficult to accept what they actually look like.

So when we look in a real mirror, we shouldn't think to ourselves," Do I look as good as myself in the Beauty Cam(美颜)?" Instead, we should think, "I feel good, I have my health."

Long long ago, there was a piece of wood. It was not an expensive piece of wood.

Just a common block of firewood, one of those thick logs that are put on the fire to make cold rooms warm.

I do not know how this really happened, one fine day this piece of wood found itself in the shop of an old carpenter(木匠). Everyone called him Mastro Cherry, for the tip of his nose was so round and red that it looked like a ripe cherry.

As soon as he saw that piece of wood, Mastro Cherry was filled with joy. Rubbing his hands together happily, he said to himself: "This has come in time. I'm in need of a leg of the table." But as he was about to give it the first blow, he stood still with arm uplifted, for he had heard a little voice say: "Please be careful! Do not hit me so hard!" What a surprise!

He tried to find out where that voice had come from and he saw no one! He looked under the bench—no one! He searched the room—no one! He opened the door to look around the street—and still no one!

"Oh, I see!" he then said, laughing and shaking his head "There may be something wrong with my ears."

"Well, well—to work once more." Hestruckanother blow hard on the piece of wood.

"Oh, oh! You hurt me!" cried the same far-away little voice.

Mastro Cherry's mouth opened wide, turned frightened eyes and his tongue hung down on his chin(下巴). "Where did that voice come from? This piece of wood has learned to cry like a child? Here it is—a piece of common firewood, the same as any other. Yet—might someone be hidden in it? If so, the worse for him. I'll fix him!" With these words, he started to knock it. He threw it to the floor, against the walls, and even up to the ceiling.

He listened for the tiny voice to cry. He waited two minutes—nothing; five minutes—nothing; ten minutes-nothing. "Oh, I see," he said, trying bravely to laugh and touching his hair. "Well, well—to work once more!" So he tried to sing a gay song to get power, and worked on.

"Stop it! Oh, stop it! You tickle my stomach." This time poor Mastro Cherry fell as if shot. When he opened his eyes, he found himself sitting on the floor.

Two sessions was held from May21st to May 28th in Beijing this year. Students are not CPPCC members, but they have a chance as model members to share their proposals (提案) in CPPCC.

Cui Jun, 15, Chengdu

I think senior high schools should have the right to hold independent recruitment (自主招生). At present, students are being picked by schools according to their scores in the senior high school entrance exam. This is mainly because the government wants students to have equal education.

But I believe independent recruitment should still be allowed. If an excellent student does poorly in the entrance exam, what can he do if there are no other exams offered by schools? This is unfair for such students. Their future should not be decided by only one exam.

Liu Shiqi, 13, Shanghai

There should be more PE classes for students who want more exercise. PE classes have become shorter in many schools, including mine.

For example, we can only go to the playground after class. It takes about 10 minutes or even more to go downstairs and upstairs. During rainy seasons, especially in spring, we aren't able to exercise outside. And in winter, smog is so heavy that most outdoor classes have to be cancelled.

I think schools should provide students with more exercise, when PE classes can mostly be guaranteed (保证) to be outdoors.

Yan Ruiqi, 16, Shenzhen

I think the government should provide disabled people with greater access(通道) to public transportation. If so, they can get around more conveniently by themselves.

For example, subways and buses should be fully accessible to wheelchair users. Taxis should specially provide services for disabled passengers.

Last but not least, traffic lights should make a sound when they turn red or green so that blind people know when it's safe to cross.

One participant said "As model members, we found social problems through proposals and discussions. We discovered our responsibility(责任) for building a better society. It encourages us to care more about the society."
