In 1997,12-year-old American girl Caitlin and 14-year-old Zimbabwean (津巴布韦人)Martin became pen friends through their schools. They didn't realize at that time how their handwritten(手写的) letters would change their lives.

It all began as a school task (任务). Everyone in Caitlin's class had to choose a pen friend from another country. All the other kids picked countries like France or Germany, but Caitlin chose Zimbabwe because the name sounded exotic and cool.

Martin lived with his family in one of Zimbabwe's worst slums (贫民窟) where they shared one room with another family. And a bed was their only piece of furniture(家具).

When Caitlin's first letters reached Martin, they were simple. The two kids wrote just about their favorite music and what they liked to do. But as Martin gradually (逐渐地) revealed more about his own life and his letters started arriving written on pieces of rubbish, Caitlin realized what the living conditions (生活条件) were like for Mart in. Without telling her parents, she began sending money with her letters-$20 at a time. Although the money was not much to Caitlin, it meant more food for Martin's family and helped him to pay his school fees (费用).

It lasted (持续) six years from their first exchange letters to Martin's arriving in the United States. With the help of the money from Caitlin's parents later on, Martin finished his university and got his MBA from Duke University.

Today, Caitlin and Martin aren't only best friends, but they also share their story in a book called I Will Always Write Back. They want to encourage (鼓励) readers to look beyond (超越) their own lives and do something kind for others, which might play an important role in their lives.

The library is a great place to visit for help with schoolwork. It opens up new worlds, encourages reading and helps you in school and in life. But the library isn't just about reading and learning. Some libraries have fun events for children, such as story-telling, making things and book hunting. And when you go to your library, there is always someone there to help you find what you want.

You can ask your librarian to help you find books about any subject that interests you.  If you like to read fiction(小说), your librarian can advise you to read adventure (冒险) books, fantasy(奇幻) books and many more. Your librarian can help you find much useful information in magazines and newspapers, and on the computer.

They have areas with comfortable chairs where you can read a book. They also have tables and chairs where you can work on school reports. And most libraries have lots of bright reading areas, so you won't hurt your eyes by closely looking at that very small print.

Don't forget to visit your library and make sure to thank your librarian for his/her help.
