What do you usually do on your phone? Useful apps add more fun. Let's find out about them.

Moji Maker

Sometimes you may feel that none of the emojis in your phone can truly show your mood. Don't worry. Just start making your own emojis through Moji Maker.

There are thousands of emoji designs in this app, such as the yellow round faces and animals. You can put any of them together. Your designs look just like the emojis on mobile phones, but they are just for you. You can also exchange (交换) your emojis with other people through the app.

Coach.me

It's usually not easy to develop a new habit. Luckily, Coach.me can help you. You can set all kinds of goals in the app. It tells you to practice daily. It also follows your improvements.

You can find other users working toward similar goals in Coach.me. You may coach and cheer for each other. If you're not sure about your plans, there are also professionals (专业人士) in the app. You can ask them for help.

80 Days

The book Around the World in Eighty Days (《80天环游地球》) tells a story about a rich British gentleman's trip around the world. Now, the book has become a game called 80 Days. In the game, you are the gentleman and plan your own trip.

As you travel, you need to choose what to do next with limited (有限的) time, money and health. So you have to use them wisely. You can also check to see where other players are on the game's map.

Great photos

Most of us take photos with our phones every now and then. But if you want to make great photos, you may need to take some lessons.

The Great Photo App shows users how things affect photos. After each lesson, you can quickly try what you've learned. It gives you a game-like environment for practice.

In the "light basics" part, for example, you can turn different types of lights on and off. Each one changes the final look of your photos.

Qomolangma is the world's highest mountain. You may have learned from your textbooks that its height is 8,844 meters. But not all sides are in agreement on this. Different researchers have given different results. In addition, the height of the mountain can change over time.

That's why a 30-member Chinese survey team set out to reach the peak of Qomolangma to remeasure(重新测量) its height on May 6, 2020. They were equipped (配备) with the latest technology, including a global navigation satellite system receiver and a radar (雷达).

It is not an easy task. The average air temperature on the mountain is -29℃ -- four degrees lower than that in Antarctica -- and strong winds blow all the time. In such bad conditions, surveying drones (无人机) cannot work at the peak of the mountain. That's why it's still necessary to send human experts to the peak to get reliable (可靠的) results.

But does a difference of a few meters really matter when it comes to a high mountain?

In fact, measuring the height of Qomolangma is about more than just getting one exact number. Mount Qomolangma is at the point where the Eurasian plate (板块) meets the Indian plate. It formed 38 million years ago as the two plates hit each other. Changes in the peak's height can show whether the two plates are heading toward or away from each other. This can help us understand the movement of Earth's crust (地壳).

The survey team will also get firsthand information about environmental conditions at the top of the mountain. This will help us understand how climate change has affected the Tibet-Qinghai Plateau.

Living and dealing with kids can be a hard job these days, but living and dealing with parents can be even harder.

If I have learned anything in my 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let other person know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you willdrift apart. When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not talking to them doesn't solve anything.

Communication begins with the care of another. It means that you can't just come home from school, go up to your room and ignore everyone. Even if you just say "Hi", and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing. To keep a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know how you feel, even if it's just by writing a note.

When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, tell them that you'll listen to what they have to say, but ask them politely to listen to you. Shouting or walking away only makes the situation worse.

Here is an example: One night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn't feel she could just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with her. Needless to say, she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, but when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren't as mad and let the incident go. Communication is the key factor here. If Sophie's parents had not been willing to listen, Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble.

Communication isn't a one-way deal: it goes both ways. Just remember: if you get into a situation like Sophie's, telling the other person how you feel-- listening is the key factor to communication.
