One of the great things about traveling alone is that you make the rules about where you go and what you eat. You'll be surprised at what you discover about yourself without any influence.

Traveling alone really shows you what you're made of and helps you to discover inner strength (内心的力量) you didn't know you had. Besides, it also gives you time to think, learn and grow. When your eyes are wide open, you'll get a whole new outlook on the world. 

It's easy to think that traveling alone is lonely. Although that may sometimes be true, you're hardly ever alone. When you travel in a one-person team, this can provide a chance for you to enjoy the most interesting part of travel—communicating with the locals and meeting travelers from all corners of the world.

In fact, traveling to know more about the world is not easy. There's research to be done, flights to be booked and choices to be made, not to mention that things can—and often do—go wrong. One of the main advantages of traveling with friends is being able to share these things and support each other through the process, even if it's just someone who will wait with your bag when you go to the bathroom.

Just as your mother always says, it's true that traveling with others can give you a sense of safety, especially if you're new to travel. You know that if you get lost or have your wallet stolen, there's someone to hold your hand when you try to explain your situation in a foreign police station.

There's no right or wrong way to travel. Whether you travel alone or team up with friends, it depends on you.

These days, Riverside High School has cut dc own the students' homework and encouraged them to take part in social activities. Last week, the school newspaper asked the students about them. Here are some of the replies.

Xue Mei, 13

I fell in love with paper cutting as soon as I watched it on TV. This year, I have time to learn it in our local art museum on weekends. Now I am able to make a lot of wonderful paper cuttings. l also teach my classmates to do it. I hope that our traditional Chinese art can be passed down from one to another.

My father tells me that food is the first necessity of man. This spring, I grew some tomatoes and corn with the help of him. While working in the field, I feel close to nature. It's hard but meaningful to look after my plants. I believe that the food grown by myself must be the most delicious.

I spend every weekend working in my uncle's pet shop. There I care for the pets and play with them. When I help the homeless animals find warm-hearted owners, I get a strong feeling of satisfaction. Working at the pet shop is tiring but interesting, I hope to have my own pet shop some day.

Tian Hao, 15

I'm a ping-pong lover. Without so much homework, I can practice it with my classmates more often. Now my ping-pong skills have improved a lot. And I can even help teach little kids in the ping-pong club. I plan to take part in the city's ping-pong competition next summer.

The giant panda, Bing Dwen Dwen, was the mascot (吉祥物) for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games. More than 1.4 million toy mascots were sold during the Games. Bing Dwen Dwen was the center of people's attention at that time. The "giant panda economy (经济)" became a bright spot in China, with many shops across the country selling a lot of panda- related products, according to newspapers.

During the May Day holidays in 2023, about 264,000 people came to Chengdu to visit the giant panda, Hua Hua. Chengdu became the second most popular tourist destination (目标) in China.

Hua Hua will soon be three years old and has caught the hearts of visitors because she can't climb trees and she is friendly. In fact, many young people travel to Chengdu just to see the giant pandas. All 180,000 tickets were sold out for the first three days of this year's May Day holidays. Hua Hua increased ticket sales at the Base. There are many cultural and creative shops full of products about pandas in Chengdu. Clothing, shoes, hats, feed seeds about pandas in the shops have also sold well. As we can see, the "giant panda economy" has become a bright spot in consumption (消费) again.

Daily newspapers in Britain and the United States

Newspapers in Britain can be divided into the quality newspapers ( more serious newspapers) and the popular newspapers.Quality newspapers are for readers who want full information on public things.  They also carry sports, cultural events, travel news and book reviews.

 People who want funny news prefer reading them. They have large headlines (标题), a lot of big photos, and news about famous people.

The Times is the most famous of the quality newspapers. It began in 1785.  The Sun, founded in 1964, is the most successful of the popular newspapers. It sells more than any other daily newspaper.  

In the United States, you can find the quality newspapers like The New York Times and The Washington Post.  You can buy the bigger ones all over the country. The US also has a lot of tabloids (小报), such as The New York Daily News, which are similar to British tabloids.

If you see a group of kids riding bikes on a city street, and there's one adult with them, also on a bike, this is a bike bus.

It's not a 1 bus, but one group of 2 together does what the bus does. Take the following bike bus 3 an example.

Devin Olson is a dad in the US. He organizes a bike bus for local schools. It drops off students at 2 primary schools. "We 4        a. m. to play soccer and eat breakfast," Olson says. "Then we check our 5        and start our ride. It's nothing but laughing."

Dancing with the Light

A few years ago, I visited the Classical Gardens of Suzhou. During the visit, my attention was drawn away from the plants, bridges and stones, towards  walls of the gardens. Mostly white, some parts of the walls are losing small  (piece) of their covering. This creates space in which light and plants can be  (see). The walls are not only the boundaries (边界) of the gardens, but they also form protected paths that guide you on a trip.

The memory of the white walls stayed with me. I kept (imagine) how many shadows (影) could be collected by them to dance with the light. This fantastic moment  I came back to explore it with my camera. Working (free) with these walls and their marks, I began to feel like collecting all the stories that were painted there. Weather and time have turned these (amaze) white walls into Chinese landscape (风景) paintings.

I (take) the photos during the month of June, just after the rain. The air was full of small drops of water, showing the light and the color  the thing around. As color was born out of a dance between light and a body, I found (I) enjoying a moment of this dance.
