How do you feel when you have to make a report in front of your classmate? What about when you go to a birthday party? Do you get 1 shy? Shyness means feeling nervous or 2 when you are round other people. Everyone experiences this shyness 3 they grow up. Most people have red faces and talk in broken sentences when they are in the center of attention. It's OK if it takes you a while to feel yourself again when you go to a new place or meet strangers. 4 , everybody gets a little shy sometimes. But many teenagers think that they hate themselves and that they won't fit in the future at coming point.

Stephen Hawking, a disabled man with a strong will, who died on March 14, 2018, was born in Oxford, UK, in 1942. He was a world famous scientist and expert on space and time. Stephen was trying to find the answers to some very big questions, such as: How did the universe begin? How will it end? 

When he was a student at university, Stephen studied math and science. Then, at the age of twenty, he became very ill. He was so young, but the doctors said to his family, "He has only two more years to live. " 

The doctors were wrong. He didn't die. He couldn't walk, but he used a wheelchair. He talked with the help of a computer. After Oxford, Stephen went to Cambridge University. Three years later, in 1965, he became a doctor of philosophy (哲学). 

Because of his health problems, it was difficult for him to draw diagrams or to write. So he started to think in pictures. With this new way of thinking, he became one of the most famous scientists in the world. Then in 1988, he wrote his first important book, A Brief History of Time. It sold about 25 million copies in about 40 different languages. 

Stephen Hawking made great achievements in cosmology with his studies searching the answers to the Big Bang and Black Hole in the universe, which brought him great fame as a leading figure in the science world even though he became totally unable to move in two thirds of his whole life. 

Teaching kids gently

Students discuss whether it is right for strangers to educate others' kids. 

Recently, during a flight, a toddler (刚学走路的小孩) kept crying, and two strangers took her to the bathroom and locked her in there for "education". This led to a heated discussion. Examples like South Korea's "no-kids zones (区域)" and reminders (提示语) for parents on high-speed trains show how the public reacts to crying children. How do you feel about strangers "educating" noisy young children?

I think it's not OK for strangers to educate the children of others. Sometimes, children can be naughty and might shout in public. This can be annoying and make us want to step in. But from the child's point of view, a stranger stepping in and shouting at them can be scary. It can also hurt children's feelings. Parents can also feel stressed when their children disturb (打扰) other passengers, but they might not know what to do. Sometimes children cry to draw others' attention because they can't express their needs well. So as strangers, it's best to kindly remind parents to look after their kids and check if they are hungry or unwell.

Instead of strangers, parents should be the ones teaching their children how to behave properly. I believe many passengers "dislike children" not because of the children's behavior, but because they really can't stand their parents' attitude. As children grow up, it is normal for them to make mistakes and disturb others without meaning to because they are too small to understand so much information. What is really scary is that parents turn a blind eye to their children's mistakes, use "he is just a kid" as an excuse and force others to tolerate (容忍) their children. If a child really does something that disturbs others, then the parents should say sorry and solve the problem.

Zigong, in Sichuan Province, is home to Chinese lanterns. Zigong lantern is known as the best lantern in the world. The Zigong Lantern Festival dates back to the Tang Dynasty. The festival has rapidly developed with traditional culture and modern technologies. In 2008, the Zigong Lantern Festival was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage(国家级非物质文化遗产), becoming a shining name card for Chinese culture to go out into the world. 

"Making a huge lantern for exhibition requires 17 steps, " said Wan Songtao, an inheritor (传承人) of Zigong lantern-making. "Each step is finished by a team instead of a single maker. " Wan added. The sundial (日晷), a kind of lantern, made by Wan's team, for example, took about 80 makers over 50 days to complete the whole process. Unlike the lanterns in other places, Zigong lanterns use modern technologies such as AI, mechanical engineering, and holography (全息摄影术). They are perfect combinations (结合) of lights, sounds and movements. 

What's more, the theme of the lantern can be chosen in different ways. "Anything that can be designed on a lantern can make a wonderful show, and everyone is encouraged to turn their ideas into real works, " said Zhang Fanglai, a leading researcher at the Colorful Lantern Museum of China. And the rich themes of Zigong lanterns show the spirit of creativity and warmth from the bottom of the local people's heart. 

The government encourages local people to learn lantern-making widely. Without doubt, at the heart of the Zigong Lantern Festival's success is the local tradition of pulling together. Zigong lanterns are getting more and more popular. Driven by the collective efforts of the whole city, they have reached over 80 countries. It's believed that Zigong lanterns will reach every corner of the world in the future. 

Hanfu Is Making a Comeback

When Zhang Lingshan was a child, she would watch Chinese period dramas (古装正剧）on television. She was deeply impressed by the characters' ancient clothing. . She only knew they were from some distant past. 

"When I saw it, I really liked it, " she said. " I was completely drawn by the beauty of these clothes, and I even wear them on regular days openly. . " Zhang told China Daily. "The return of Hanfu is not about turning back the clock. It's about passing down our culture. "

. There are Hanfu shops, designers and researchers, and even photography studios that rent Hanfu. In a recently published report by online shopping platform Tmall, more than 2 million Hanfu clothes were sold in 2020. If you walk through major cities, you may see a fan dressed in the sweeping robes, crossed collars and wide sleeves of Hanfu. 

Many people like Hanfu because they see Hanfu as a way to celebrate Chinese culture and find national belonging. . A growing number of young people are now looking to the past for fashion advice. Christine, fashion researcher based in Shanghai, said "So it's the confidence of the younger people. . "

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Van Gogh Museum, the museum has worked with the Pokemon Company to hold  amazing event. They hope the event will help young people learn about Vincent van Gogh's art. The event started on September 28th and ( run) until December 7th, 2024. 

As one of  (popular) places in Amsterdam, the Van Gogh Museum has a large  (collect) of works by Vincent van Gogh,  (include) more than 200 paintings, almost 500 drawings and over 700 letters. Emilie Gordenker, General Director of the museum said, "This event will allow young people to get to know Vincent van Gogh's art and life story in a  (complete) new way. We will use many years of educational experience to create a special experience for  (child) and many others at the Van Gogh Museum. "

There are many activities across the museum during the event. Six paintings mix Pokemon characters into Van Gogh's paintings. For example, Pikachu  (show) in a work that is inspired (启迪) by Van Gogh's Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat from 1887. Children over 6 years old can take part in an adventure activity (discover) the museum and the stories behind the paintings.  Van Gogh lived in the distant past, visitors show deep interest in him.
