Ever since I was a child, my mouth has caused me trouble. I'm not a bad person; I have a 1 time learning when to keep my mouth closed.

My mom has told me again and again, "Robert, your constant bad words are hurting me. If you 2 to be this rude, you will get into big trouble."

It's been a problem at school several times too when teachers have told me something I didn't want to hear. I used to feel it was my duty(职责) to 3 myself.

One day in English class I began working on my homework until I heard a classmate 4 behind me. It was Nathaniel, who liked doing that as usual.

At first, I said very 5, "Nathaniel, would you please be quiet?"

However, Nathaniel continued talking to himself. I quickly 6 "Nathaniel, shut up(闭嘴)!"

For the next five minutes, we threw hurtful(伤感情的) words back and forth at each other.

"At least I don't have an ugly lazy eye like you!" I shouted.

I knew this would make him 7. It would hurt his feelings and shut him up.

What I said filled him with anger. He tried to 8 over my seat and catch me as he shouted, "That's it! That's it!"

9 at his reaction(反应), I sat back in my seat. I had never seen Nathaniel act like this before.

Later on, we were taken to the principal's office. There, Mr. Black, our English teacher, told us to 10 the matter. It wasn't until then that I finally found that 11 I hurt someone physically(身体上), the wounds eventually heal(愈合). But when I hurt them with my 12, sometimes the pain (痛苦) never goes away.

At the end of the discussion, I said 13 to Nathaniel.

When I went back to my room, I spent some time praying(祈祷). I began to 14 how often what I said hurt others. But I believe that as I keep praying and asking God to help me, he'll tell me when to keep my 15 closed.

How do you win a Nobel Prize for writing? Here's the secret from a previous winner: make it short, keep it real, and work hard.

Canadian author Alice Munro, 82, was awarded the 2013 Nobel Prize in literature. She is known for her short stories about personal relationships of ordinary people, usually women.

Munro was born into a farming family in Ontario. The family was very poor. Munro did a lot of physical work as a young girl. She decided to be a writer at the age of 12. Now Munro turns her hard childhood into great writing ideas. The story Dear Life, for example, opens with a description of the neighborhood in which Munro grew up. Also, she talks about her poor relationship with her mother in many of her stories, such as Lives of Girls and Women and Friend of My Youth.

Since she published her first book in 1968, Munro has won many awards, with the Nobel Prize as her biggest honor. But Munro doesn't see herself as a talented(有天赋的) writer.

“I'm the opposite of a writer with a quick gift. I don't grasp it very easily at all, the‘it' being whatever I'm trying to do,” she said.

Do you dream of becoming an author while sadly admitting you are not that talented? Munro has a tip for you: use notebooks and write a lot.

“I have lots of notebooks that contain(包含) this writing,” she said. But it helps her sort out (整理) her mind. “Stories would just be working in my head for so long that when I started to write I was deep into them.”

When I was a little girl, my father loved to play catch (抛接球游戏) with me. I wasn't very good, but he would encourage me. He was always telling me “keep your eye on the ball” as I would not be able to catch even the easiest of throws.

As I got older, we didn't play catch as much. If I had a problem, I would go to my father to ask for his advice. He would try to joke with me and say “keep your eye on the ball”. We would both laugh because usually that advice did not apply to(适用于) the problem, but he would try to make me smile.

My father became ill in 1995 when I was 23. As he suffered from a stroke (中风), he could not speak. There weren't any more conversations. He could only mouth words, which were sometimes hard to understand. After a while, I seemed to be pretty good at reading his lips (嘴唇), even better than the nurses who were caring for him.

During our last conversation, I was telling him about a problem I was having with my then boyfriend. Once again, I could read his lips: “Keep your eye on the ball.” We both smiled.

That was the last time I saw my father before he passed away.

Since then, when I get into a stressful situation I tell myself “keep your eye on the ball”.

Flying is a fast way to travel. But it is a big headache for some people. They can't help worrying about things like, “Is turbulence (颠簸) a bad thing?” or, “Is it dangerous if we don't change our mobile phones to flight mode (飞行模式)?” British newspaper Daily Mail spoke to some experts to answer these questions. They also tell us other interesting things about flying.

    Is turbulence dangerous?

It's scary and uncomfortable. But it is not something you really need to worry about.

Turbulence is caused when two groups of air hit one another at different speeds. Wind, thunderstorms (暴风雨) and being close to mountains can be reasons for this.

You may feel like turbulence is dangerous, but it won't crash (坠毁) your plane. “Even in extremely rough air (扰动气流), the wings (机翼) are not going to break off,” explained Patrick Smith, an airline pilot, who is also an air travel blogger and author ofAsk The Pilot. com.

    Why are plane windows round?

Round windows are for passenger safety.

As the airplane flies higher and higher, the outside atmospheric pressure (气压) gets lower and lower. During the flight, the pressure inside the plane becomes greater than the pressure outside.

When this happens, square windows can break. That's because having different pressures inside and outside puts pressure on the corners of square windows. But rounded corners can spread the pressure through the window.

What happens when a phone isn't on flight mode?

Some passengers believe mobile phones and tablets need to be turned off because they could bring the plane down. However, this is not true.

If you don't change your phone to flight mode, pilots and air traffic controllers may hear unpleasant sounds in their headphones. It also influences radio communications. So it's still best to put it on flight mode.

Primary and junior high school students will get new versions (版本) of textbooks this fall term.

The biggest changes will take place in Chinese textbooks. The primary goal is to include more traditional(传统的) Chinese culture. For example, ideas on the hundred schools of thought (诸子百家) will be introduced to students. There will also be more classical Chinese poems and essays (文章). The percentage(百分率) of traditional culture in the new textbooks will be raised to 30 percent for primary school students and 40 percent for junior high school students. Meanwhile, about 15 percent of the content (内容) will be taken out in order to make students have less work.

The Language and Culture Press will publish the new Chinese textbooks. It makes one of the main versions of the present textbooks in China. First, the new books will be given to more than 4 million students in the first and seventh grades across the country starting this fall, and then they will be given to other grades.

Also, politics (政治) textbooks will get new names. Primary school politics textbooks were called “morality and life (品德与生活)”, and those for junior high schools were called “ideology and morality (思想品德)”. This year, the names of all politics textbooks for the first and seventh grades will change to “morality and law (道德与法治)”.

It's the first time the word “law” will be included in the names of textbooks since 1949. “We need to let kids know that laws protect them as well as how they do that,” said Li Xiaodong, sociology (社会学) professor at Beijing Normal University.

When did you last say “I love you” to your father? If you can't remember, then you can get the chance this Father's Day on June 19.

Generally compared to(与—相比) a mother's gentle love, a father represents qualities such as independence(独立), confidence, courage and adventure(冒险).

Also, caring fathers help their children get along with others. Fathers can lead their children into their social circle(社交圈). They can al so teach them how to behave and control their feelings.

For example, Microsoft founder Bill Gates was quiet and didn't like to talk with others when he was a little kid. So his father often held family parties and let Bill play games with family members. “my ability of leading and cooperating(合作) became better through games.” Gates once said in an interview with US Fortune magazine.

US actor Will Smith said that his father taught him important lessons through small things. His father once planned to tear(拆) down a wall of their shop and rebuild it. But little Will thought it was impossible. After a year and a half, they did it. “You didn't try to build a wall. You are going to lay a brick every day. And soon you have a wall,” he said on TV show.

“One father is more than a hundred schoolmasters”, British poet George Herbert once said. Do you agree?
