Traveling has always been a good way to relax. But this is not true for Xiao Lin (not her real name).

In November, Xiao Lin took a trip to Lijiang, a tourist city in Yunnan province, and haddinner at a restaurant. She had a fight with a group oflocal people because they made a joke abouther while she was eating. Later, they beat her heavily and her face was injured badly, reportedCCTV.

This made the public very angry. In fact, she is not the first person to be injured at famousscenic spots(景区) in China. Last month, theNational Toztrism Administration(国家旅游局) gave serious warnings to three national SA scenic spots. It also asked them to change and improve in six months.

The three spots are the Old Town of Lijiang, Jingpo Lake in Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang, and Laohutan Ocean Park in Dalian, Liaoning. According to People's Daily, the three spots received the most complaints(投诉)from visitors during this Spring Festival.

"We're sorry for our bad work," the Old Town of Lijiang government wrote on its Sina Weibo account. "We are open to tourists' suggestions, and will make things right."

If the three spots don't correct themselves in six months, the National Tourism Administration will remove them from the 5-A scenic spot list, reported Guangming Daily.

"I'm glad to hear that the spots will improve themselves," said a Sina Weibo user, who once went to Lijiang but had a bad experience there. "I hope they will change into better ones."

Last year,I went to Beijing Qizhi Special Education School for community service (社区服务)Before we took the bus,my friend asked me a question:"Why are you here?"I did not know how to answer the question.

The school was not far from my school, but it looked like it was in a different world.A group of children were waiting for us,A boy walked toward me.He held my hands and pulled me to the ground.I kissed the earth and tasted nature.

I could not understand what he was doing at first, then I was very angry.Though I was very anrgy,I controlled my anger.

A teacher stopped this awkward(尴尬的)silence when she shouted at the boy."What are you doing right here, right now?"she said."You will never ace your mom again if you keep doing this. Now say sorry!""Sorry."he cried fearfully and nervously.I said noting, but I realized something about this child. After lunch I asked the teacher for information about the child's parents.

She said that the child was very different from other students because of an illness. His family could not afford to treat to treat him.He needed the kindness of his family, but they hadabandonedhim. So he depended on the support from the teachers and community service workers like us.

I suddenly realiazed I could answer the question my friend asked me at the beginning of the day.

Community service workers help others and make everyone feel better. There are so many people in the world that need help.Playing with lonely children may not make a big difference. But in can light a corner in the children's hearts, making them know they are loved by people.

Libraries

Public libraries

Most towns in Britain have a public library.A library usually has a large selection of books and other resources, which library me mbers can use and borrow for free.

Britain's First Public Library

The first public library in Britain opened in Manchester in1852.It's first librarian was a man called Edward Edwards,Edwards attended the library's opening ceremony and two famous writers called Charles Dickens and William Thackeray were there too.

How to Join aLibrary

To join a library,go to your local library and fill in a form.you'll receive a library card which is needed when using library services.

Mobile Libraries

Not everyone can get a library. Some people live far away from towns and cities.Other people find it difficult to go out because they have an illness or a disability. Thanks to mobile libraries, these people can still borrow books.

Unlike most libraries, which store books in buildings, mobile libraries usually keep their books in a mini﹣bus. The back of the mini﹣bus has shelves for the books, and it is big enough for borrowers to step inside and look around.A driver takes the mini﹣bus to a certain place at a certain time,so people know when to expect it.They can then return their books and borrow some more.

All Aboard the Library

A school in London didn't have space for a library inside the building. However, everybody agreed that it was still important to have a school library. So the head of the school,Graham Blake decided to park  an old bus on the school car park and changed it into a library.Pupils helped to paint the bus,and after eight months, the new library was ready.

Could the students from less developed areas in central and western China get the same educational chances as those in big cities in the east? Could the children in poor rural (农村) areas develop as well as those in rich cities? Maybe the answers were “No” in the past. But now, China is trying to change the situation.

In order to help rural students grow taller and stronger,China's Nutrition(营养)Improvement Programstarted in 2011. According to the program, a lot more money was spent improving students' meals. More than 36 million students from134,000primary and junior high schools in poor rural areas havebenefitedfrom the program. They are provided with healthy food like eggs and milk from Monday to Friday at school. And the result of a survey shows that the students in those areas are much taller and stronger than before.

It is true that there were differences between less developed areas and developed areas in education before. Recently,The Guideline for Popularizing High School Education(2017-2020) has come out. According to the guideline, above 90% students from all over the country will go to high schools by 2020. What's more, the schools in central and western areas will get more support to improve their education.

Students from rural and poor areas also get more chances to receive higher education. A special college program makes it possible for more students from those areas to go to key (重点的) colleges and universities. The number will be increased by 10% in 2017.

With the guideline and the programs, we can expect a fairer and more balanced (均衡的) education in the future.

David walked down the street. All he wanted to do was to play basketball with Jim. But his mother told him to return his sister's books to the library on his way to Jim's house.

In his eyes, books and summertime just don't go together. He thought he had read a lot during the school year. And he had never set foot inside a public library. Today he'd just drop the books off in the outside return box, but it was locked. He had to go inside to return them.

David walked inside the building a few minutes before closing time. He put the books into the return box. After a quick drink of water and a short stop in the toilet, he'd be on his way to meet Jim. He walked out of the toilet. The library lights were turned off. He was locked — in a library.

David tried to use the telephone, but he couldn't find one. As the sun began to set, he searched for a light and found a little one on the desk. He used a pencil to write a note on a big piece of paper. It read, “I'm locked inside. Please call for help.” He put it on the front door. Surely, someone passing by would see it. He then turned his attention to the library itself.

He was surprised to discover that this place was not so bad. Rows and rows of books! When he saw a book about Michael Jordan on the desk, he picked it up. He opened the book and began to read. He felt that being locked in the library didn't seem to be such a terrible thing.

Tim Berners-Lee is not the most famous inventor in the world. However, his invention has changed our lives.

He was born in London,England in 1955.When he was a small boy,Tim was interested in playing with electrical things. He studied science at Oxford University. He made his first computer from an old television at the age of 21.

Tim started working on early computers. At that time, they were much bigger than now.He worked in England then Switzerland.Tim was really interested in two things, computers and how the brain works. How could the brain connect so many facts so quickly? He had to work with people all over the world. They shared information about computers. It was hard to manage all the information. He answered the same questions again and again.took a lot of time.Itwas even difficult for computers in the same office in Switzerland to share information.Tim also forgot things easily.Could a computer work like a brain?Could it"talk"to other computers?

There was an Internet already but it was difficult to use.In 1989,Tim Berners﹣Lee invented the World Wide Web(WWW) all by himself. This had a special language that helped computers talk to each other on the Internet. When people wanted to share information with others, they used the World Wide Web.The Internet grew quickly after that.

Tim Berners﹣Lee doesn't think he did anything special. He says that all of the ideas about the Internet were already there. All he did was to put them together. He says that many other people worked together to make the Internet what it is today.

Most inventors want to become rich. But Tim gave away the World Wide Web for nothing. He now works in America. He helps people share technology and wants the Internet to be free for everyone to use.Maybe he is the most important but least famous inventor in the world today!
