Thanksgiving Day is a day for (give) thanks to God for harvest during the year. This holiday is celebrated in the United States and Canada.
In the United States, the first Thanksgiving was celebrated by Pilgrims(清教徒) in Plymouth in 1621. The Pilgrims were English setters(移民), and wished a good harvest. They had early autumn harvest festival to give thanks to God for new (crop). That was the first Thanksgiving in the United States. The festival (last) three days. During the festival, men hunted ducks, (goose), and turkeys for food. Women cooked a lot of food over outdoor fires. Everybody outdoors (enjoy) many games together. Finally, in 1789, President George Washington proclaimed(宣告 ) November 26th as a day of (nation) Thanksgiving.
There is one interesting thing about Thanksgiving Day. The American Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on the (four) Thursday in the month of November. But the Canadian Thanksgiving Day is on the (two) Monday in the month of October every year.
