More than 1 billion people around the world are homeless. Two companies have come up with a new way to help. They are using special 3-D printers(打印机). The big machines print out new homes.
A printer usually prints things onto sheets of paper. A 3-D printer works differently. It read a design. Then it makes a 3-D model of that picture. It makes the model from the bottom up. It prints one floor at a time.
The new 3-D printer is called Vulcan. The Vulcan can build homes in less than one day. The houses are big enough for three or four people. The first 3-D printed house has already been built. It was shown in Austin. Texas. USA. The house has large windows. The rooms are small but making you feelat ease.
The new house was built by two companies. One is New Story. The other is ICON Evan Loomis, head of ICON said." the house in Austin is just the first step. Later this year, we want to build about 10 homes in EL Salvador." Next year, they plan to build a whole village. It will have 100 homes.
However, not everyone likes the idea of 3-D printed houses, someone worries that a heavy and could blow out windows or doors. ICON and New Story say they will work hard to make their homes safe. They also plan to share the printers with other companies. Together. They will do what they can to end homelessness.
