Mr. King lives in a city. He is busy all day. His son, Mike, studies at a middle school. The boy likes everything but studying. He doesn't listen to his teachers in class and he (几乎不)ever finishes his homework on time. He doesn't help do (家务). He always plays football or uses the (因特网) when he has free time. Sometimes he watches (电视).
He can't pass the exams. Mr. King has little time to stay with Mike (在一起), so he doesn't know anything about his studies, One day Miss Read, Mike's teacher, (打电话) Mr. King. On the telephone she told him all about the boy's studies. She wanted him to try to help his son at home. (然而), when the man heard this, he didn't feel very happy.
Mr. King gave Mike a telling off (责备), but soon felt sorry for it. The next morning, before Mike went to school, he said to him," (学习) hard and I'll buy you a car when you pass the exam next year,"
Another term was over. Mike didn't get good (分数). Mr. King asked his sun, "You don't pass the exam again, Mike. What did you do this term?" "I learned how to (驾驶) a car, Dad," answered the boy.
