    Have you ever seen a sandstorm (沙尘暴)? They usually happen in deserts (沙漠) when winds blow lots of sand into the air.

    Desertification (荒漠化) has made sandstorms worse. For example, some people cut down trees to sell or burn. Some cleared land for growing food.  In the early 21st century, sandstorms attacked(袭击) many parts of the country, including Xinjiang and Gansu province.

    China has called on its people to plant many trees around the country. It has successfully made some of its deserts smaller.
