While you are sleeping at night, teenagers in the Netherlands (荷兰) might be having a hard time.
Dutch (荷兰的) parents sometimes take their children out at night. They drop them off (让.....下车) in the (森林) and tell them to find their way back home with just their mobile phones.
It's a special Dutch (传统习俗) called "dropping". It usually kids a few hours to find their way home. The goal is to build their independence (独立性). (尽管) the Dutch enjoy this tradition, other people think it's a bad idea. Some parents think it is irresponsible (不负责任的) parenting. "I don't think it's a nice thing to do to kids," said one parent from the US. "It's late and long, and kids might be (害怕的)."
But supporters have their American parenting writer Lenore Skenazy (说), "When you let children out, all the good things happen - the self-confidence, (高兴), and self- sufficiency(自我满足) that come from letting our kids do some things by (他们自己)."
Stijn Jongewaard, an 11-year-old Dutch boy, loves "dropping". When he finished his (第一) "dropping", he told The New York Times that in the future he would like his children to do it as well. "It reminds you, even in very hard times, to keep going. I have never had to do that before."
